How do you keep your ultragauge/scangauge from overheating?

The one thing ive noticed since installing my ultragauge is that while it sits outside the inside of my car heats up thus heating up the ultragauge. Is this hurting the gauge to turn it on while its hot?

If it does hurt it what have u done to keep it from heating up without using a full windshield sun shade or parking in the shade?

Sun shade. Keeps the rest of the car (and you) cooler as well.

Piece of paper. I am thinking to make something, out of paper, balsa, or maybe legos.

I think Metro said it, just an old map does the trick.

The Ultragauge has an internal temperature alarm that's set at 140 or 145 degrees F. You only need to worry about damaging your UG if its internal temperature alarm goes off.

I have my UG mounted below the instrument cluster, which keeps it out of the sun.

And/or I can mount my Scangauge in the same location.

that is my problem is that the alarm goes off at 145F normally it only reaches 150F or so so i just turn on the vents to blow on it until it cools below the 145, but today it reached well over 180F so i chose to run the ac on it to cool it down faster then switched to vents once it went under 145. It looks like i should just invest in either a sunshade or tint all the windows to just above my states legal tint like I've been wanting to do. Unfortunately it had about 20pct tint on it at 1 time beings it was a las Vegas car that got moved to western Pennsylvania, it was stripped of the tint due to the law.

PS. I do not have anywere underneath my dash like you do in my current car the gauges are shaped weird ( it is a very nice to spot to keep it there btw ) . In the 1st car i had this in i had it covering the rpm gauge and set the rpms on the gauge keepin it cool. then in the escort i had it down below by the shifter, but now i finally invested in a window mount to find it gets very hot up there haha

Go with the sunshade, like in Pale's photo. The problem with window tinting, besides its illegality, is it handicaps your night vision to a dangerous extent.

I keep my UG cool by living in Oregon.

This is how my UG is mounted. It is a large wire clamp with a piece Velcro at the back and a corresponding piece on the back of the gauge. This allows me to remove it and place UG under the seat when not in use, this with a sun shade keeps it from overheating when the car is parked. Just the shade will not keep it cool enough here, in So Florida.
