How does the Nissan Versa get such good mpg?

Ive seen that on highest non hybrid mpg car list, the Nissan Versa is near the top. How is this possible, when it weighs so much more and has bigger engine than the other highest cars? Cars in its size class usually get much less claimed mpg. Are the claims acurate?

It has a crap cvt transmission that will come apart at around 80,000 miles.

Don’t mess with a Nissan. Good claimed MPG for the CVT but very little hypermiling potential. In that price point you’d be better off with either the Chevy or the Mitsubishi which are both available in manual. Don’t be dissuaded from the Mitsubishi just due to its low HP rating, with the manual transmission it feels adequate (from having test driven them)

I think they are talking about the one in the top 10 non hybrid for the garage entries.

I don't know, but if they are updating their fill ups then they are still active on the site and you can send them a pm

Even though its Jatco CVT is often reported to be unreliable, it's more efficiency-oriented than the Aisin CVT fitted to Toyotas and more recently Brazilian Fiats.

He's probably just figured out the exact speed he needs to drive like me in my Prius for max efficiency. For me it is 44mph lol. Also even though the g/kWh is pretty flat i typically stick to 2000 rpm at most times when i png or accelerate since cvt life.
