How to figure out fuel mileage
 

I guess this is mostly for Canadian members, but I just got a Chevy Aveo and I put my first tank of gas in it today. Next time I fill up I want to calculate the fuel mileage. In the past I've divided the liters by 4.54 to get gallons and multiplied my kms by .62 to get my miles then I divide the miles by gallons to get miles per gallon. I'm not sure if I have all the figures right for the conversion, or if I'm even doing it properly. How do other's do this? Obviously I could just use Liters/100kms, but I'm old fashion and that means nothing to me, I'd prefer MPG. I appreciate any help, Thanks

1 kilometer = 0.621371192 miles
1 liter = 0.264172052 US gallons

Multiply your distance in km by .62137 to get miles.
Multiply your fill in L by .26417 to get gallons.
Divide miles by gallons.

As an aside, 1 liter = 0.219969157 Imperial gallons.

The 4.54 factor is for converting liters to British/Imperial gallons.

I posted a handy chart a few days ago that will give you what you need and more. Once you have the fuel converted to US gallons and the distance converted to miles, you can use the forum's fuel log feature to help you keep track of your MPG. EDIT: Multiply the US MPG by 1.2 if you want the old familiar Imperial MPG numbers :)
