How to get coroplast home?
I know that the "local" sign shop will sell me a 4x8 sheet of coroplast for 20 bucks. That's absolutely great! :D
Except for one thing... I can't exactly make my airdam at the store... I need to get the coroplast home. I have already determined that it will not fit into my trunk or passenger compartment... How did YOU get your coroplast home? The only thing I can think of is to strap it to the roof, beginning at the windshield and hanging back as far as it needs to... promblem is that I need to drive... 12.3 MILES!!! at 45 mph tops... :( Any ideas for me? I will be getting a trailer hitch soon, and will have a post-type bike rack, so maybe I could strap it to the roof and have it rest on the bike rack? |
Strap it underneath, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang style?
http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r..._Bang_Bang.jpg ...or should I say, MetroMPG style??? LOL |
you can roll it up, I got some that way once.
|
Hmm...I think I just stuck mine in the crx, but it is a hatch, even if it is small...I don't remember how that worked since it's been a few years but I know it did.
|
but there is nowhere to put an 8 foot roll of coroplast either... :-\
and wouldn't it crease instead of roll? |
Mine creased. Kinda sucks, but oh well.
|
If you know you don't need to make any pieces 8 feet long, have them cut it in half at the shop. I'm sure they'll give you one cut for free, and then you'll have two 4x4' sheets instead of one 4x8. At that point, you should be able to stand them vertically behind the front seats and lean them against the back seat without blocking the rear window.
|
If you know approximately what dimensions you need for your piece(s), you could draw them out on the sheet and cut them out (slightly overlarge) with a box cutter or heavy duty scissors, so you would have smaller pieces to load in your car. This is something you could do out in the parking lot beside your car if you had to.
|
I folded mine in half. 4ft x 4ft square sign, folded down to 4x2 and it fit easily. 8 feet? No idea.

Network. Ask friends of friends if they have any friends that drive a pickup truck. Or a minivan with a roof rack.

Sometimes you gotta use the term "friend" loosely... ;)

Duct tape it to the top edge of the windshield and let it hang off the back?
I guess you could run a couple of strips of duct tape from the back down to the car to keep it from flapping but where would the fun in that be  I have seen people haul mattresses home strapped to the top so maybe put your mattress on the roof before going to get it  |

Unfortunately I need a sheet 4x8. So all the cut and fold methods are out of the question :(
I know I need about exactly 8 feet wide, and probably 2-3 feet tall. I plan on doing this: (It's just transparent so you can see where the car is behind it) |
I had a 3 seater couch on the roof of my Tempo in college, you can manage a 4x8 sheet of coroplast. A little string and some braces and you could have an awesome tear-drop roofline going there
|
yeah you can fit that on there, my buddy had a taurus just like yours, and when we moved him out of college we took a couch that was almost as long as the car home on it, rope and duct tape. that was a 4hr drive from lower NH to upper VT with interstate driving and such. He had a roof rack, but that was a giant couch, not a thin sheet, go slow and be fine.
I took 2 couches around for a week on my old cherokee cause I had nowhere better to put them. |
Does your Taurus have fold down rear seats?

If the Taurus has a roof rack, then it must have been a station wagon. Sedans never got roof racks. My concern with putting it on the roof is blocking the taillights and rear window. |

and dont worry too terribly much about the tail lights. if you need it 8' then you DONT need it 4', your car is not that big. cut it down the center, let it stick out the trunk, and drive home, easy peasy done |

I don't want to cut it at the store, because I plan on cutting it like this: (see first attachment) so that it will be angled like this: (see second attachment)

Trailler ftw!
Or ask your buddies |
Get two 4x8 sheets of plywood, make a sandwich, and strap it securely to the roof of the car (put something like foam or blankets underneath it to increase the contact area with the roof & protect the paint).
Then drive carefully. :D == Oh, and: Haha, Frank. |
Actually a trailer might be what I have to do... :-\
I'll have to tape some cardboard together and see just how massive a 4x8 rectangle looks on the roof. |
