How-To: Honda CRX Rear Wiper Delete/Removal
I had to buy the Honda plug off of ebay for $15 since Honda didn't have any in stock. If there is an HF in the junkyard near you it should be easy enough to pick one up, but I'm not that lucky.
http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0172.JPG Begin by popping off the covering. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0173.JPG Then take off the 12mm bolt holding the arm on. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0174.JPG It took a little bit of wrenching to get off but try to be careful. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0175.JPG Yay, it's off! http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0176.JPG Now we need to go inside to remove the wiper motor. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0177.JPG First you need to get the plastic off, which is a pain. Remove the brake light cover, unbolt the brake lights, and then you'll need to pry off the sides first. After that there are some big metal clips angled parallel to the hatch glass holding the plastic on on the side closest to the rear-view glass. You'll want to careful pry the plastic up towards the roof of the car, as if you were trying to slide the plastic piece up. After you do this you can see the wiper motor, which you will need to unbolt. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0178.JPG Once unbolted, remove this cap. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0179.JPG Unscrew the big nut, the last thing holding the motor up. 23mm. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0180.JPG Be careful if you close the hatch, I smashed one of my brake lights. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0181.JPG Really fine glass got everywhere. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0182.JPG Don't forget to unplug the motor. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0183.JPG And there you have it, the motor. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0184.JPG http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0185.JPG Now you have a hole to fix. http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0193.JPG http://ecomodder.com/imgs/DSC_0194.JPG Shove the plug you bought into the hole, and voila! I would suggest RainXing the window to make sure you have some visibility. |
The HF doesn't have a plug. It just doesn't have the cutout there for the wiper motor arm to come through.
|
SVOboy, you shouldn't be running around barefooted where there's broken glass ;)
How much would you say the motor and wiper weigh? |

The whole thing probably weighs about 5 pounds, but the main issue for me wasn't weight, it was aerodynamics, though it is always nice to get a 2 for 1 deal |
You just lost .01 Cd. You should be happy. :)
|
Actually, I've heard the .01 is from both the wiper and the thinner tires on the HF, so I'm not sure. Thinner tires would normally just mean a lower A so I don't know if what I read was confusing the issue or if the width also creates a large enough wake to up the cd more.
|
You mean you don't have 155/80 tires?!?!
|
I forget, to be honest. I will be rolling trading my vx wheels + 60 bucks for insight wheels and potenzas in a week or two :)
|
Oh, speaking of the Insight mods you plan on doing, you ARE going to fit those rear skirts, right?
|
That's probably the least practical of any insight -> crx mod.
It would be neat to cut off the insight front clip and weld it up to the crx though :p |
96-00 Civic front end fits easier, and still looks just as bad on a CRX. Doesn't match the body lines at all, and ends up looking really wrong when compared to the tail lights.
I'd venture a guess that the wheel skirts and rear bumper assembly would pretty close to fit without too much modification though. |
The wheel skirts aren't the right shape at all, though! When I go pick up the insight junk I'll hold one up taking a picture.
|
Ah, I guess you're right... the whole rear end is a little wierd compared to the CRX.
