how to lower the seat?

I'm not that tall but the top of my head is against the roof when I'm driving the '99 honda ex coupe. I'm feeling very cramped in this car and it doesn't feel safe.

Does anyone have diy suggestions to lower the seat or is there anything else I can do?

Perhaps you need to recline the seat a bit more. My cousin is over 6ft tall and doens't have issues in his 2000 Civic DX. He does have to recline the seat a bit, but its not horrible at all.

Thanks for your comment.

Now there's an inch above my head and more room.

I'm still interested to lower the seat, if anyone has an idea about that.

I don't think that there is any feature of lowering the seat in car. Instead you can recline the seat if you are tall enough.

could you just fabricate your own seat bracket to lower it?

There is very little room under a Civic's seat for any lowering mod. Yours being the EX, do you have two large knobs on the outside edge of the seat? If so, those raise and lower the front or rear of the seat bottom (more raise than lower). Not sure if EX models have these but the close cousin Integras do. If not, an Integra seat will fit if you'd like.

Just as fyi, becareful about mounting and remounting etc. YOu not need the seat mount to be the weakest link in an accident!!!!

Swap out the seat brackets with shorter ones from another car or recline the seat and live with it. I'm 6'4". I had a 73 nova I removed the seat brackets and mounted the seat on brackets from another car. I had plenty of room and because the seat was about 1 inch off the ground no one else could even try to drive my car. Since then I just accepted I don't fit in any car and live with it.

Thanks much for the helpful replies. Reclining the seat did help, which was done by using the two knobs on the side.

Shorter seat brackets would help a lot. If anyone knows where to get them, let me know.

Have you never considered some of those aftermarket racing seats, since they're usually lower?
