How many pictures of your face do you take at a time?

The news had a segment on teenagers pressured to make Instagram posts. The girls said they made a whole photo shoot out of it. Girls and guys said they would take fifty or a hundred pictures to get one good one.

It is far more challenging with my brother. Is he looking at the camera? Are his eyes open? Is he smiling?

I don't take photos of my face unless it's to document some skin condition I'm concerned about to send to my wife.

Sometimes I'm in photos taken by others, and I hope to represent the best image I can when that occurs, but doesn't occupy much of my thought.

My Facebook ( I know, Facebook is evil, but I use it for the marketplace and to keep up with how the political morons are trying to further steal my freedom) profile picture was taken over 3 years ago, a family photo. I haven't facilitated pictures of myself since, though I know I end up in a few due to church functions; for some reason people take pictures of the preachers.

Selfies... I found selfies ridiculous... a symbol of the selfish and narcisic society of today.
Not too much about the selfie itself, but the constant publishing of it by people.

freebeard 06-27-2019 08:09 PM

Maybe I should post my favorite picture of myself. It was taken in 1995 by the only true friend I ever had with my first ever digital camera, a Casio QV-20.

Probably not, it's too special to me, and Google is watching. I did see my own picture on Facespook at a Mac User Group meeting, so I know there exists a shadow profile on me.

The history of the selfie before the cell phone is interesting. Some say Robert Cornelius in 1839, others point to spray-painted hand prints in caves.

edit:
The latest episode by Phillip DeFranco is titled Wow...The Future Of Deepfakes Is Here, Alabama Outrage, Google Censorship & Manipulation Allegations. It explains why you don't want you photo floating around Internet.

Not embedding it because the Alabama Outrage part.

I took a ballot selfie once, simply because it was illegal in my state at the time. I'm in a lot of family pics, and the DMV gets one shot at me every 8 years.

Xist 06-27-2019 11:26 PM

In theory, in Arizona, you could let the MVD take your picture when you are sixteen, and use that same picture until you are sixty-five.

Good luck with that.

I have had Facebook recommend women that I knew and they had many more pictures of themselves than their kids. I take more pictures of my brother than myself.

I dated a girl that did exactly this:

I have several recent pictures of my brother holding things. I am not sure why I do that instead of just taking pictures of the thing, but I enjoy taking pictures of my brother.

Frankly, the only selfies I take are because I want to capture some scenery, but include myself because my wife vastly prefers pictures with me in them vs dry scenery photos. I don’t think I’ve ever taken more than 5 to get something satisfactory, though.

Since social media is the subtext of the thread, I really don’t participate. Facebook ends up getting me depressed, so I just don’t use it, and that’s the only one I’ve ever signed up for. No twitter, gram, etc. Forums suit me better.

And that’s speaking as someone who literally grew up in Silicon Valley, with two parents in the tech industry, during the formative ten years beginning in the mid-‘90s of the internet.

One might say you're an Ol' Skooler?

I found work with personal computers and software in 1980. When Rupert Murdoch dropped a bundle on MySpace and everyone bolted to Facespook, I just laughed. Never signed up for either.

I get my dopamine hits from Ecomodder and the Simultaneous Sip on Coffee with Scott Adams.

That resonates more than you’d probably know...

Facebook is an example of why I'm utterly useless at predicting the future. I was on Myspace at the time, and very content to be there, meanwhile Facebook only allowed you to friend people that went to the same college as you, based on the .edu domain you registered with. Then it opened up a bit more, and then later they had annoying poking...

Couldn't see the value in Facebook whatsoever considering the vastly superior Myspace. I mean, you could code your own page, rather than be stuck with whatever Facebook wants your page to look like.

Facebook is awful and people are dumb. That's my rant against humanity for the day, though a relatively minor one.

jamesqf 06-28-2019 04:04 PM

I don't ever take pictures of my face, and I'd really not have friends take pictures of me, either.

I just found out that CSS floats and Flexbox have been superceded by CSS Grid Layout. Makes me want to [fake] a little web development.

I never knew HTML. Instead I'd just see something I like, copy/paste the source code, and tweak as needed.

That's what I meant by 'fake a little web development'. :)

My brother's birthday is coming up and we took him to some places he did not want to go, to celebrate. I took four pictures with the default app, downloaded CameraMX, and took two dozen more, mostly of him in Odysea Aquarium in Scottsdale, which is poorly-lit.
I really should have taken sterile pictures using both apps, but it seemed vastly better. They prohibit flash photography, saying that it disturbs the sea life.
I was impressed with CameraMX. It vastly improved taking pictures in dim lighting!

I got my first dashcam. Sharper Image brand for $20 at the local grocery store.

It came without an SD card, then I need to figure out how to mount it on my bicycle.
