Hello from Nor Cal

Hi all... have been enjoying the threads here from Basjoos and AndrewJ very much... Currently commuting 25 miles each way by motorcycle but that kinda sucks in the winter. Granted the weather is not as bad as other locations, but nevertheless... So I've been looking for an inexpensive, reliable, and efficient used car to get me through the winter months. Didn't realize that with some relatively simple mods and a modified driving style, I could get better mpg than my 'bike!

Based on what I've read here and what I've learned elsewhere, it seems like the 5th gen Honda Civic VX or CX hatchback would be a good starting point for doing aero mods given that they are already very efficient. Would be interested in other inputs as well.

Hats off to those of you that post detailed instructions and related information!!

NachtRitter -

Welcome to EM! Yeah, riding my old motorcycle in LA was too nerve wracking for me, so I put it out to pasture. Riding in general takes more toll on the body, so it makes sense to *at* *least* have an alternate winter ride.

The Civic hatchbacks are definitely a winner for you.

Traffic isn't too bad 'round here for motorcycling, and some of the alternate routes into work are a definite hoot (I live in the foothills & commute to the Sac Valley)... but the storm that's hitting the west coast is really taking the fun out riding...
