HP2G in X Prize competition?
Doug Pelmear & HP2G are always such fun topics. He and his website say they are in the xprize competition (from the hp2g webiste: "HP2G accepted as contender on Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE"). But I looked through the list (Teams Home | Progressive Automotive X PRIZE) and don't see them. I looked for HP2G, Pelmear, Revenge, but didn't see anything like that. Am I missing them?
I still see occasional news reports about HP2G going into production of these engines. Has there ever been independent proof that these engines do what he says they do? Wayne Gerdes has driven a Prius from Chicago to New York on a tank of gas. Has Pelmear done ANYTHING other than a few burnouts in his mustang and say he gets 110MPG (or MPGe)? |
Well, got an answer!!! They dropped out of the contest having never been an official entrant. They had submitted a letter of intent, but never got passed that stage. What a joke!
Details can found here: HP2G acrimoniously drops out of Auto X Prize |

I should add that HP2g has a press release about dropping out here and Progressive (the sponsor) responds here. |
According to the xprize foundation they didnt drop out, they were kicked out.

Update: I have delete their garage here several times and they keep adding it. I am just going to ban their user account

The whole thing is really just silly. They won't show anyone anything to demonstrate validity and give the excuse of awaiting patents. Huh.. it seems to me I sure have seen lots of products with "Patent Pending," giving as much protection as the actual issuance. They're really just a soft target though. In a couple of years, should they be mentioned, we'll all say "Doug who?" "HP2 what?" |

But I apologize for providing a link to their site, if that's where you got it. :o |
lol!

It seems that a reporter could go for a ride along to verify the car actually got that kind of mileage. They wouldn't even need to see the engine. Of course, if they didn't check out the vehicle, it would be possible to have a hidden gas tank. *shrug* I just keep wondering how long this guy can string this along before he gets exposed. Will we actually have production cars getting 110mpge, and he will be claiming to have his Mustang getting 500mpge, still with no proof?

I think the guy's next project will be a Ponzi scheme, since his mode appears to be trying to bamboozle gullible people with math. 2 + 2 = 5, for extremely large values of 2. |
