Hybrid trike from PSA Group
This has four wheels, but the rear wheels are mounted far enough inboard to consider it a trike. It will do 40mph on battery power or 80mph on full hybrid power, according to the article. Alas, no plans to import it to the States. More at the link.

Leaning three wheelers like the Toyota i-road have promise.

I don't see the appeal. But then, I'm skeptical about the performance at the edges of the envelope, like a crosswind in an off-camber corner.

Leaning three wheelers like the Toyota can have the super aero minimal frontal area of a a two wheeler with an enclosed cabin. 300 mpge at 70 mph would be feasible with a truncated streamlined design

I don't like those leaning trikes so much, but the drivetrain project seems interesting.
