I need help to determine if this holds some truth or not.

If so, what is the tradeoff?

Or does this truley belong in the Unicorn Corral?

It only mixes fuel in with the gases blown through the crankcase so on a carbureted engine the mixture would be overly rich.
A FI engine will reduce the fuel injected by the same amount as evaporates from the bubbler; no gain, no loss. Unless the heated air burns before it reaches the combustion chamber; then it will be worse.

Cracking hydrocarbons? Whatever evaporates in the bubbler does not need cracking, it will burn well enough. Only heavy hydrocarbons would need cracking before burning well, but then they need to be heated much more than this.

If it has any net positive effect it must be due to preheating the mixture, mimicking a WAI, but with the added risk of explosion and producing large amounts of CO.

The concept seems to be that the vapors from the blubber is cracked into hydrogen.

If one keeps the theory abstract "Utilizing waste heat, to pre-digest petrol for greater efficiency", then I think it makes some sense.

I still don't know how to disprove this, or get it out of my head.
Explosions and CO risks makes me not want to attempt this myself though. ;)

Have a look at the temperatures used for steam-cracking hydrocarbons ... 850°C .
It's done without oxygen, for obvious reasons .

The crankcase vent is lead to the intake in many cars these days, in order not to let HC vapours get into the air, but to burn them instead.

The idea holds merit.
 
How it is applied in this case leaves much to the imagination.

As mentioned in above replies, thermal de-polymerization takes relatively high temperatures, pressures, proper C-O balance and residence times. The device in question provides little if any of the needed parameters to produce hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide ( the mixture being traditionally called coal gas or in modern parlance, syn-gas).

The only item that may be of help is the copper tubing wrapped around the exhaust. Copper, as well as iron, nickel and other base metals can act as a catalyst in the breakdown of carbon chains dramatically reducing the temperatures needed.

Another may be the content of alcohol in the fuel itself. Methanol and Ethanol decompose much more readily than the rest of the fuel constituents. A significant percentage of ethanol (5-15%) as found in some USA markets could provide a useable production stream of syn-gas allowing effective augmentation of the combustion cycle.
