Hydrogen in Hawaii?

Why would Hawaii bother with hydrogen vehicles when it is importing diesel to make electricity in the first place? Hawaii to get hydrogen fueling station; Toyota Mirai leases to follow

It's ran by stupid and useless extreme wing nut politicians.

It really is a stupid plan for someone in Hawaii to think they will turn electricity into hydrogen for cars when most of their electricity runs on diesel. What is the longest trip you would ever take in a car in Hawaii anyway? If you want zero emission vehicles why not just encourage battery EV's? Hydrogen cars don't even make sense over BEV's in SoCal. Let alone Hawaii.

Frickin kills me that geothermal power could easily meet all the demand there....but guh head and try to build a geothermal plant somewhere......YOU CAN'T DO THAAAAAT!!!! This is a sacred place!!! No power plants can be here!!

Even if they were going to use either geothermal or other non-polluting electric power source to get the hydrogen through electrolysis of seawater, it's still too energy-intensive not just compared to BEVs and PHEVs but also to some alternative fuels that could be adapted more easily into the mainstream fuel supply such as ethanol, biodiesel and biomethane.

Electric isn't as cool as hydrogen.

I guess the monorail salesman was busy.
