Hypermiler Heart Attack

It's the equivalent of showing the rib-fest menu to a group of vegetarians. I've created this thread to make people squirm in discomfort. You know, just for the fun of it. I suppose we can all look and say "Thank god that's not mine." If you have any grotesque gas guzzling finds, please post them to this thread.

Good thing its so big and can tow so much. I wonder how much a 100 gallon gas tanker weighs? I'm pretty sure you would need to tow one behind that thing. What does it get....2mpg city 5mpg highway?

Twerp 07-29-2008 05:23 AM

The only stat that crossed my eyes on fuel economy for that thing was that it got 13mpg. Considering that it is diesel, I kinda believe it. I think that it comes with two 50 gallon fuel tanks. So at a total of 100 gallons, it would cost $450 to fill it, assuming the price of diesel is $4.50 per gallon (I don't buy diesel, so I don't know what today's price is).

metroschultz 07-29-2008 10:11 AM

It needs an air dam in front and aero bed cover in back.
Then ti would get 14 MPG
Seriously, They were working on that concept when I worked at the Ford dealer.
It is based off the Ford Semi Platform. Available with all the creature comforts of an Over the Road Tractor.

I'd hate to say it but some of those look like they could be daily drivers. Clearly money is not a problem for those guys. $94k plus those mods don't look cheap. Custom arm rest, paint, blah blah. So I don't think that they would mind filling up twice as often as some of us here.

Just what I need to drive across the street to buy a bag of chips and a mega-gulp.

And some people are surprised that ford lost $8.5b last quarter.

SVOboy 07-29-2008 04:14 PM

Man, I thought someone had actually had a heart attack, :p

Arminius 07-29-2008 04:38 PM

I did!

Will 07-29-2008 06:18 PM

I would really have a heart attack if my rear-view mirror was full of that thing :eek::eek:

larryrose11 07-29-2008 07:07 PM

Ford:
Of the 8.5B, *only* 1b was cash, about 1 month of operation operation.
The supply of Focus and HEV escape were tapped. Couldn't make any more to sell.
That will change.

I believe that about 10% of households in the U S of A enjoys millionaire status. About 20% is worth at least a half million.

To a very large total number of people FE likely means nothing. You only go around once so why bother yourself to conserve if there is no way you are going to spend it all in the first place.

dremd 07-29-2008 07:45 PM

I can't believe you guys finally caught me, found my truck

lol

Seriously; there are quite a few of the International CXT's around here pulling horse trailers. It truly frustrates me. I'm looking for my pics from SEMA; but I can't find them.

azraelswrd 07-29-2008 08:23 PM

Wow, that truck looks like it was built to go to war moreso than the Hummer.

Twerp 08-01-2008 01:28 AM

Okay, these vehicles might not be as offensive as the first one that I showed you, but I don't think they are improving their economy any. More than that though, I just think that if I had the budget that some of these cars required, I would prolly spend it a little differently... Maybe I'd pay for a couple years worth of gas for my truck. Maybe I would have some really advanced and professional looking mods, including a 2.4L diesel conversion. Maybe I'd just go get a Smart or a Yaris or something like that.

Then there's this guy... I don't know what cost him more, the gas or the tires.

It had been a few months since riding in a relatives tractor trailer, this was the bill for 137 gallons.

but as many hypermilers know to figure mileage, some forget that there is 40 tons on the 5-6mpg and houses getting built with lumber delivered. "Trucks make the world go round", so it is not all that much a shock...unless it is for some crazy guy and his turbo diesel hick dodge pickup gone mad, driving around by themself, hillbilly stacks and lucky to haul 10000 pounds without breaking something...those are the repulsive ones.

A buddy drives Isuzu NPR 2-tons for a different department at work; the tanks hold 33 gallons. At $4.52 / gal that's about $150 per fill. Yowza.

azraelswrd 08-01-2008 07:30 PM

Well, it's their toys and they can do what they want with them... I guess. But that tug of war... who won? I think they both lost in engine wear and structural stress.

Exactly, I've seen some of those tug of war things with the game ending with the transmission or something blowing up (all I know is that a bunch of oil/liquid spilled everywhere).

Maybe instead of replacing their transmission (whatever that broke), they chose to buy a fuel efficient vehicle. Wait who am I kidding. :(

LUVMY02CREW 08-02-2008 02:11 AM

Truck tug-o-wars...5mpg supercars...these are great:D

Wait a minute...I just noticed my mpgs.....
Here I come Elizabeth, it's the big one....:p

Heh heh.... well... I did spend over $100 filling my tank kinda recently... :o
But but but... I did manage to go 700 miles (27mpg) on the previous tank. Best tank ever!

A couple of those videos actually made me just slightly sick to the stomach.

At least in that first video with the F-650, it had a backup camera. Too bad that was in addition to, instead of a replacement for those HUGE rearview side mirrors!!!

The first time I ever saw a gas pump showing over $100 worth of gas, I took a photo of it. That was years ago.

I also once had to borrow money from my dad to buy gas. He loaned me a $100 bill. I put less than $20 in my tank. When I paid for it, the clerk punched in one too many zeros, he couldn't figure out how to void/adjust it, and decided to just fix the books at the end of the day, so I had a receipt for something like $982 in change.
