Hypermiling saved my life! Well...

While driving home from the City of Rocks here in Southern Idaho, I decided to start some pulse and glide techniques. When I killed the motor and started rolling down Elba pass, I was pleased to see that my speedometer stayed at 45 MPH. Then a loud bang hit my drivers headlight and I saw I'd hit a deer. Its always been my worst fear hitting something big in such a little car. As you can see the deer died, but the car lived. Minimal dammage to the front fender and head light still works. I seriously think if I'd a been going any faster, I'd a had to replace the windshield too. LOL

[big][big]This is me looking for my regestration, and expired insurance. Officer Tony asked, "With a plate like that, what kind of milage are you getting? AND WHERE'S YOUR PASSENGER SEAT?!!" The tank before last I got 67.8 MPG and this last tank was 62MPG. Why waste gas driving around a bunch of empty seats?[/big][/big]

[big][big]I know that Idaho is a two plate state, but I can't help but think that if its out front, then it will effect my aero on the front end.[/big][/big]

Good story.

GREAT licence plate! "MPG OCD"

Did you or officer Tony keep the deer? :D

Yumm

I asked if I could keep the deer, he made the call and sure enough, I brought the thing home. Gutted it and stung it in the tree. I wonder if it will be more tender now?

I would think that the $ value of the meat will out weigh the cost of a used fender/hood?

A case where slower is safer!!!

Regarding the front plate: since you have pulled the pass. seat, (applause!!!) what would you think of lowering the passenger side sun visor, and putting the plate on the front of that with small bungie cords? It would give the car a more finished look w/o
a possible injury to yourself if it slid from its present position???

Great story; keep up the good work!!!

I missed two groups of does this morning on my way to class. I coasted up on them and they didn't move until I hit the horn.
On the way home I pulled out behind a slow moving line of pickup trucks They were probably going 40 mph. I set up a safe distance behind them and did my pulse and glide routine. I saw a large tractor ahead of the trucks at the top of a hill. About the time the tractor and trucks disappeared over the hill, an SUV caught up to me. I was running about 7 mph under the speed limit. In my mirror I could see the driver waving her hands in frustration that I was going so slow.

We crested the hill and there were the four trucks at a dead stop as the tractor was turning left into his field. I had to get on the brakes pretty fast and the gal behind me did too.

If I had not been paying attention and driving like everyone else, bad things could have happened.

I've seen a couple Metro owners put the plate below the bumper, doing double duty as a partial lower grille block. Don't know if it would be possible with your bra.
