I finally broke the 50 MPG mark :)

I've been coming close the last couple tanks, getting 47 to almost but not quite 50 MPG. I just filled up this afternoon on the way to work (thinking I had maybe a gallon left) and used exactly 8.5 gallons for 438.2 miles. I've only had my car since April 18th and have already driven almost 6000 miles. Next goal, 55 MPG then 60 MPG. Obviously a couple things need to change on my car (like going back to stock size tires (the previous owner installed 175/70-13's instead of 155/80-13's) and change my hubcaps to pizza pans. I'm also changing the oil this weekend to 5w30 full synthetic since it's due. Thanks EM for helping me save so much money and time.

Adam

Congrats on 50 mpg Adam! You'll be pushing 60mpg in no time. Sounds like you'll put on some serious mileage also.

I did the math as of my last fill-up and I'm averaging 570 miles per week since I bought my Geo. Anything less fuel efficient and I couldn't afford to drive it.

Congrats on the good mileage Adam.

FYI I just picked up some mobil 1 0w-30 synthetic for my Prius. It might be worth a try, especially once winter rolls around.

Maybe I'll join your "Team Metro". Sounds like you caught the MPG fever!

You might want to consider a 3tech 8 degree advanced cam gear. I finally put mine in and had a big increase in fuel mileage. You might want to ask around and see what others say about it. I had 155/80s, went to 175/70, then back to 155/80. I'm not going back to the 175/70s. I can coast much farther with the 155/80s.

I'm exactly 10 miles below you at 560 a week. I know how you feel!

This will be a summer oil for me, and wouldn't the 0w30 be too thin? I could have swore that that's what I read.

Sweet! Yeah, saving money is big for me. Especially since my Supra sucks down the gas like no tomorrow (2.5L single turbo pushing around 500 RWHP, it's going on the dyno next week so I'll find out exactly how much RWHP then) and is costing me more money than I make.

The 3tech cam gear is planned, along with a couple other things. I'm also on the GeoMetroForums under the same user name.

0 is the cold weight, 30 is the hot weight. When oil is cold the viscosity is much thicker, so 0 is fine. So, basically the 0W vs 5W helps during warm up.

Interesting. I picked up a bottle of 5w30 full synthetic. I'm going to see how that does and will try a 0w30 next time I change my oil.
