Referring to the Clarity? It was pitched to me but I didn’t want to pay for capability that I couldn’t use

Insight is probably a solid pick. Does it have any EV ability where it cruises with the engine off?

No. I was referring to Honda's 160cc, highway capable, 100mpg scooter.

Oh, no. Our weather is far too bad to use one of those year round, and I’m not licensed for one

I've been fairly silent over the past couple of years as well.
I still DD my '11 Insight, and since just over a year I work in Hoogeveen which is 142 km away from home twice a week, once in Gouda (36 km away and the rest from home.

As I suffer from tinnitus which gets worse in a loud environment I'm looking for quieter options. I currently driver slow at or just under the speed limit, but not overtaking anything doing slower ahead (except for livestock trailers and erratically driven cars, the like) which usually means I end up following semis at a safe distance. This easily rubs 20-25% off consumption compared to just doing the speed limit the whole time.
Also I get 24c/km travel reimbursement which easily pays for all car costs except depreciation.

I am in the fortunate position that I could just outright buy a new EV and charge it on my driveway. Less fortunate is that my job position as well as the future of my department is not 100% secure, things may change and reduce my commutes and therefore the need for an EV.

Worst of all my wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer and just started chemotherapy. I will have to stay home more often to support her and our kids. Turns out there are things much more important than fuel economy.

As for that - she was unlucky that the cancer was not revealed on last year's scan, but very lucky not to ignore the very slight dimple on one of her breasts. She had read that can be a sign of cancer, and it turned out to be. A fast growing tumor that would not have left her much chance for survival if it had gone unnoticed for another half year or so.
FWIW, get checks, and don't ignore symptoms like these.

Sorry to hear that. Wishing recovery back to health for your family.

Thanks. Please see this as a side note as I don't want to hijack the thread. And I have a keen interest in the later Insight model even though it does not sell in Europe.

It does use a drivetrain shared in common with most of Honda's new cars, however. I've driven the newest Jazz and was impressed. It was an easy 70mpg (3.3L/100km) city, and it drove deceptively well. If Honda sold one as a plug-in, I'd be all over it.
