i guess I'm back again...
I've been away for a long time, and after taking a long break from any forms of social media, i decided to poke my head back up here. Thinking that maybe now is the time to start actually getting serious about fuel efficiency again... i drive an hour each way to work and i cant seem to find equally paid jobs closer to home...

May I ask what your efforts to find well paying jobs nearer has been? What about a better compensated job nearer? My interest is ecomodding life, not just a transportation tool.
At 56 MPG, you're not going to live a noticeably more abundant lifestyle by getting to say, 70 MPG.
None of that is to say you shouldn't pursue better efficiency. Just don't let any particular area of efficiency blind you to everything else.

Is that traffic or just distance?
I have been looking for work for 3 months and just don't want to commute 45-60 minutes--or work for less than places 45-60 minutes away pay.
It's hard out there.

The issue is mostly that the only jobs in the town in which I live pay over 10K less a year than what i can make now at the job an hour away, and rent doubles if i moved closer to said job. It's like 34 miles each way with an approximately 2000ft elevation change in it, which makes most cars absolutely drink fuel on the return trip home. A member here (he knows who he is) prodded me into buying a more economical daily driver (i was using a Chevy Malibu Maxx V6 prior) that even more importantly isnt constaltly broken, but i havent done any real ecomodding or hypermiling in...forever...
the 56mpg in my sig was from the peak of the hypermiling days of my Saturn, nowadays it rests during the winter and i try and race it during the summer

Ecomodder is all the social media I allow myself. I guess I like being a big fish in a small pond, based on the 30,318 (+1) posts.
The longest commute I had was 45 minutes each way. The hardest part was my son spent 9½ hours in day care.

Wikipedia says WV mountains peak at 4,00ft. Are you going over mountain passes?

Well, I live in the town of Terra Alta(2850ft), and I cross Cadell Mountain (3000ft) during my commute down into Morgantown(1161ft). If the elevation change were all straight, i could just coast downhill and build speed, but there are little towns along the way and speed limits and such...

EV is going to be the best bang for the buck for longer commutes if you have a garage to park in or can otherwise access an outlet.
If you're commuting 5 days a week, that's 350 miles. A standard 120v outlet can only add 4 miles of range per hour, meaning if you plugged in 12hrs per day it would only add back 250 miles of range in 5 days, a 100 mile deficit.
I'd be looking at a used Chevy Bolt since they're affordable and offer 250 mile range. At the end of the work week, it would be down to 150 miles of range, but should be able to be topped up over the weekend.
Of course, a 240v outlet eliminates all charging worries.

You can sometimes get 220 @ 15 amps in a garage if they have more than one set of outlets or outlets from a different room on the other side of the wall. How I charge the ranger faster

I'm not even sure I have any functional 120V plugs on the outside of my rental which is why I skipped over EVs and plug ins when I was car shopping a few weeks ago. the car I was commuting with was falling apart quicker than I could do a lot of searching, so I landed (thanks to Ecky for the guidance) on a third generation Honda Insight. i still need to start a fuel log for it and make a thread

Agreed on the EV.
If EV isn't an option, would a Honda PCX be out of the question?
