I secured a table saw, but it immediately smells like it is burning

It is a Makita 2703 15 Amp 10-Inch Benchtop Table Saw. Its replacement sells for $528 on Amazon. Is it worth diagnosing the problem and trying to fix it? Having a tablesaw would be extremely useful. I have a circular saw, but a tablesaw would save a great deal of time. I have seen people screwing circular saws to the bottom of tables to rig tablesaws, but an actual tablesaw would be much better. Harbor Freight's version is $140 and eventually I will be able to get it a bit cheaper.

I could always put up a notification for Craigslist, but it would be far easier to find a used one back in the Phoenix area, I just rarely drive down there.

What do you guys think?

.

Make sure you're using a extension cord that's at least a 12/3 cord.
12/3 carries 15 amp. Anything less will shorten the saws life. (burn up)

Ryobi makes a decent Table Saw that is inexpensive. ;)

No need to spend big bucks.

This. Lots of stuff burns.

It immediately smells like it is burning. I did not try to bring wood or bring a motor.

As soon as it is plugged in or after the motor is turned on? Did you try turning the blade to make sure it isn't stuck?

As soon as I turned it on. The blade spins freely.

Assuming it has 'em, check the brushes.

This page does not show brushes on the parts diagram, but owners mention it: https://www.ereplacementparts.com/ma...8_216_217.html

I will check it when I finish replacing my timing belt.

If the rated RPM is higher than 3,600rpm it's going to have brushes.

I believe the brushes are item #74 on diagram A

Xist 06-20-2018 03:20 PM

Well, there it is.

Were you able to fix the problem?
