I want to buy a Mpguino but am not sure it will work with lean burn, help.
Hi everyone I'm new here and have read plenty of post about leanburn and gauges. I resently bought a honda civic hx and want to start tracking my mpg to find the best mpg. I have read good things about Mpguino. Can someone point me in the right direction?

does anyone know if the mpguino can be conected to the OBD2?
|
Sorry I can't answer the first question but...

If you are asking if the MPGuino connects to the OBD2 connector no. If you are asking if the MPGuino can be installed in an OBD2 vehicle yes. The MPGuino uses an injector signal and a VSS signal. You would connect to the appropriate wires so it won't connect to the ECU. |
I see that there are many satisfied people who bought mpguinos from Dave (dcb). how do I contact him?
|
thanks Razor I was just hoping that I could just conect the gauge without having to spice some wires.
|
does the mpguino show engine load and tps and rpm?
|
The mpguino is an MPG gauge. It connects to the injector signal and your speed sensor. That is all. No other information can be squeezed out of it if you tried other than fuel consumption vs speed.
|
thanks 96-civic-ex, I had seen that scangauge does that and it makes it easier to know when lean burn should be able to activate. I also read that scanguage reads 00000 when lean burn is activated. Does amyone know what the newest version of mpguino is or the best version?

I ment to write 97-civic-ex not 96 sorry

The scan gauge 2 will give you most obd2 port info, but lean burn is not one of them(at least not directly. Monitoring the O2 sensor output should give you an idea of it staying lean, but doesnt really tell you you are in lean burn. Oh and I've read the gauges that connect to the OBD2 port are not accurate when it comes to mpg during lean burn,... the mpguino is better for that. What I would suggest is getting an mpguino for accurate mpgs during lean burn, and an ultragauge (like a scan gauge but much cheaper) for all other info. |
I took too long to order, DSchmidt Technologies is out of stock till 4/2/2013.
I was reading some post about lean burn and found out the california edition hx doesn't have lean burn but, I'll put my money toward the fed ecu. The mpguinos should be back in stock soon. Sorry for the late post I was studying for midterms. |
I'd get an Ultragauge - it can read and clear error codes on many vehicles and also provides load, TPS %, etc.
It won't give correct MPG #s with lean burn, though. It will read 0.000 v on your O2 sensor when you are in lean burn (which you WILL have with a manual trans CA HX). |
I should be getting my fed ecu tommarro so I am expecting to be in lean burn more often so, I'm going with mpguino. I will get one when more become availuable, Ialso need to fix or replace my vss to get the right readings with the mpguino.

I have MPGuino available.
But if you don't want to use Ultragauge to read those things, you can build for example this: DIY Air / Fuel Ratio Meter or some other. (that was first one i found written in english). Or just buy a ready-made from somewhere. |
Hi,
mpguino can show RPM when it is programmed to to so - it can get it from injector signal :) mpguino is best thing for lean burn - it measures directly from injector. Yu probably notice it from instant mileage reading when it is in lean burn mode - should be much more economical reading. I have mpguino calibrated in my car and it is accurate - under 1% error. (when taking 60L diesel, pump and mpguino readings difference is under 0.5L) Check my signature for mpguino web link. Meelis |
