I went to the dealer and saw cars.

I was sent to the Toyota dealer (as part of my job) and saw some cars I admire. Normally I don't care to look at any of the vehicles on display. But this time there were three cars on the showroom floor and all three caught my attention:
  1. 5th gen Toyota Prius
  2. Toyota GR86 (stick shift)
  3. Toyota GR Corolla (stick shift)

They are about the only new cars that say, "buy me." But I'll never own one. However, it was nice to actually be able to see them in person. It gave me something to look at while I waited for the service to be done on the vehicle I had brought in (2024 Sienna).

If I were told I could just take any one of them for free it would be a tough decision; but probably would go with the GR Corolla. I'll never own any of them. They're just too expensive and either will stay too expensive or likely be abused, or both, so will never be considered on my list of used cars I'd buy. But I guess it's nice to daydream from time to time.

Agreed, especially the electropunk retro-futuristic daydreams.

Did you see the BZ? It's undergoing a revision to bring it up to modern EV expectations.

Nope.

The three cars above were the only ones in the showroom. I'm sure there were other Toyota vehicles outside, but didn't pay any attention to what they even were.

Most likely, that would also be my choice. Odd enough, even though a 3-cyl engine is often discredited as if it was always inherently inferior to a 4-cyl, the one fitted to the GR Corolla is a masterpiece of engineering.

Not certain but I think the chevy econocar (sprint?) from the last century had a decent 3cylinder

The 1.2L I3 turbo in the current Chevy Trailblazer works well. It sounds horrible but produces good power and fuel economy.

Until the oil inlet clogs up with pieces of rubber from the timing belt. Then it all of the sudden goes kablooey!

Sorry for my prejudice against wet belts. I've never seen nor heard of one lasting as long as advertised, and sometimes with catastrophic results. Not to mention the Trailblazer's timing belt is a bear to inspect and even worse to change.

Why go with a belt instead of a chain? They save $2 or something stupid?
