Just a couple things:
1. The cell phone charger thing is a flaky proposition at best, build the 7805 circuit:

2. Also, it MUST be connected to battery power so it is powered when the key is off, or in run, or in start. I have a few lighter outlets and one is off in start, the other is off when the key is off. That's no good for an mpguino, you will lose your tank trip or worse.

3. it said 8204 for the asian vsspulses per mile, should be 8208.

Oh, it needs to be powered all the time? That might be what I'm missing...I'm guessing it doesn't eat enough power to make the battery notice, eh?

it draws maybe 40 milliamps (last time anyone measured), not usually enough to worry about. The LCD will turn off by itself after 7 minutes of inactivity.

measurements on the currents
