If i remove my charcoal canister is that bad for FE?
95 jeep cherokee old technology not obd2.
No sensors are hooked up to my charcoal canister and i just got a vacuum leak from the canister iteself. Dealer doesnt sell them anymore and instead of strolling the yards can i just yank it and plug my vacuum ports on the intake manifold? What do you guys recommend it basically is a place for fuel and emission fumes after the jeep is turned off right? |
Isn't it supposed to catch evaporating fuel vapors when the engine is off, and store them so they can be sucked into the engine and burned when it's running? So wouldn't you expect some small decrease in fuel economy if you removed it?
I'd say pull it out, find the leak (if it's not in the hoses), and use some glue/sealant to plug it. |
Rockauto.com lists that part for ~$30, part # CP3045

It should have zero effect on fuel economy. It will have a noticeable effect on emissions, though not those coming out of your tailpipe.
Patch the hole if you can, or get the replacement noted above. -soD |
not a good idea to remove it -
if nothing else the evap system regulates pressure in side the fuel tank . there are a few reasons why this is a good thing , imagine high pressure in a fuel tank then imagine partial vacuum in a fuel tank yes repair the system |
