I visited acrel-ms.cn Not much in English. What I see looks a lot like the Enginer kit. Enginer had problems with batteries, BMS or lack their of and converters. Some even had charger issues.

Questions:

Do you have a US distributor?

What brand and battery warranty?

What is the BMS brand and does it balance?

Dear Cobb,
Thank you for your interest. Our english version is on http: slash slash www dot acrel.en.alibaba.com Acrel Electric Co., Ltd. - Energy Meter,Smart Power Analyzer[/url]
This kit is patented in USA, and manufactured by Shanghai Acrel Co.,ltd. Shanghai Acrel Co.,ltd is a listed company, its stock code 300286.SZ you can research this. Its annual sales record reaches more than 60 million USD and on the rise. How? Good quality! We never ignored small problems. We have agents in Europe. Plug-in Autos have been cooperating with us very well. You know, they(Germans) are really very rigid with qualities. Without good quality, they would not have invested their money. They are responsible guys. We think very highly of them.
Qustions to your answer:
1. We haven't agents in USA currently and of course we will seek one or several.
2. Battery brand is RFE. This supplier invested more than 10 billion RMB(about 1.7 billion USD) in battery production. Battery warrenty 2 years.
3. DC-DC converter,BMS and charger are developed and manufactured by us. BMS is active ballancing. Currently, we are cooperating with a EV manufactuer . We supply BMS system.

If you have more prolems, you can contact me at dgl(at)acrel-ms.cn or skype me at ericdong1976 You can visit our Alibaba store.

Does it do top balancing, bottom balancing?

Do you sell the kit minus the batteries?

Are you selling kits for other cars like the Gen 1,2 Honda Insight, Gen 1,2,3 Honda Civic Hybrid and other vehicles?

Hi Cobb, we designed this kit specially for Prius and Auris. So we consider its space, its voltage and current. We didn't try them on other car brands but some of our agents tried and told us it is ok for some other brands. The main issues to consider are voltage, space, and communication.

BTW, we also sell parts besides the whole kit. The warranty is 2 years for the whole kit and all the parts. Looking forward to cooperation with you.

Seriously, WTF?!?

Cobb 12-22-2014 06:50 PM

I gained 15-20 mpg with regular driving. With all the tricks of eco driving I managed 103 mpg with an epa rating of 43.

Cobb 12-30-2014 08:09 PM

Just driving with cruse control and converter set to 117 volts 17 amps.

I'm definitely crazy like you, COBB:thumbup:

Edit: on a more serious note, is this phev conversion thing something that can be "slapped" onto just about any car? I know nothing about this deal...

Thanks,
Victor

Cobb 12-31-2014 10:36 AM

It can be slapped into any hybrid car and back feeds the hybrid system so car uses mo electric than gas. Better mpg is the result.

vrmouseyd15b 12-31-2014 03:47 PM

That is slick! Too bad I'm too poor for a hybrid :(

Thanks,
Victor

Cobb 12-31-2014 10:01 PM

Dude, you have built a few hondas. Im sure you could of easily afforded a used Insight, Prius or some over hybrid that came and went. Same stuff, different day. Once you get the car stuff figured out you just install the big box in the trunk with the batteries, converter, bms, charger and wires. Run a switch, run a power cord, run a lead to the ecu for a ready signal if available. Once you turn it on just drive and get an instant boost of mpg and extended use of EV mode if available.

haha! I guess it's more the fear of not being able to fix a problem with the electronics (or maybe the electronic nannies just piss me off :) )

Happy New Year!

Thanks,
Victor

Cobb 01-01-2015 12:00 PM

A gen 1 insight can be a fustercluck of a project. They usually suffer from several problems, bad ima battery, bad or missing grounds, leaking exhaust, bad cat, bad o2 sensor, clogged vtec filter, 2,3 sychros need replacing, ISB needs replacing, etc.

You can bypass the ima battery, try balancing it or replace it for 2 grand with a new one. The rest of the stuff Im sure you have done already. Sometimes the IMA errors are from a rat snacking on the wires inside the battery unit.

^^^^^^^ work,work,work ugh.

'Guess I'll just stay old-skool. I've actually found an '81 civic wagon up in Iowa that I'm starting to get a hard-on for (I was born in 1981 - that would be just too cool to have a car my age! ) Runs and drives, and prolly more expensive than a hybrid :)

Thanks,
Victor

Cobb 01-01-2015 07:31 PM

meh, first hole, second hole or carried like a bowling ball. :D

Anyhoo, Id love to have a Synergy drive highlander(SP?) toyota made and get it with a large phev kit. I think an owner who went to an 8 kw kit was netting 40 mpg before the battery needed recharging.

vrmouseyd15b 01-01-2015 07:36 PM

That's insane! Then you plug in at home? How long does it generally take to recharge on your car? What kind of jump ddid you see on the power bill?

Thanks,
Victor

Cobb 01-02-2015 05:06 PM

If this kit is like the enginer, then its automatic for the prius/synergy drive system. They have a "ready" signal from the computer and the power relay to the phev kit taps that. So once you install it under the trunk and remove spare tire you just leave the dash switch on. It back feeds the car when its ready and you get a bump in mpg. With a higher state of change you coast further vs dip into regen when you coast so you get use to this and further get more mpg.

Just plug it in at home and the charger does its things. Mines was 4 kilowatt in size, never could tell any difference in power usage. Same with the block heater. It lasted about 4.5 hours of increased mpg and about 4.5 hours charge time.

vrmouseyd15b 01-02-2015 06:27 PM

Sweet. Sounds like a great idea!

Thanks,
Victor
