If you needed to rent a storage locker, at what point would you cancel your contract and move?

After the Uhaul fiasco, I rented with the local ExtraSpace, and wished that I had done so originally.
I don't remember how I found the Uhaul site, just that it was the best price I could find in my area, but then ExtraSpace was better--for 9 months.
Then they increased the rent by almost 20%.
I've heard of much larger increases much faster, but I also had the manager stop me as I was leaving an hour before the posted closing time, and yell stupid things at me until I said "I'm leaving!" enough times for her to allow me to leave.
Also, I've never been able to log into my account, despite arguing with the same manager.

Of course, I don't start out raising my voice and arguing, I asked for help, and she tried to argue with me.

I don't know why I gave them my school e-mail address, but I had that horrid experience with Uhaul.
They also ask if you're a student and I always try to save money.
(not hard enough to haul everything Mom can't fit in her room to the dump)
I tried my personal accounts and ExtraSpace e-mailed me that they didn't have those addresses on-file, but when I tried the one the manager gave me, I never received a response.
I tried so many times, the site blocked me!

I read that someone rented a second locker 3 doors down for half what they were paying, canceled their original contract, and after a year, they increased the new rate by 30%--putting it 35% below the original rent.

I signed up with another location for just over 40% of what I'm currently paying.
Hopefully, it will be a while before I feel the need to check going rates, but also, I'm hoping to get rid of a bunch of stuff.

I'm supposed to save over $150 monthly.

By the way, after looking for 9-10 months, I finally found a job, and it seems awesome.

I thought you had a shed on Mom's place to put stuff?

My dad continues his craziness and bought a 20' shipping container, then bought a dehumidifier which consumes a crazy amount of electricity, then cut open the container to run the dehumidifier... so he can store crap that should be in the dump.

I certainly err on the side of keeping too much, but I don't pay anyone to keep it on their property for me.

Then there's the extreme opposite where people constantly rebuy stuff because they can't manage the clutter in their lives. There're people who will give away winter clothes when spring comes, but then buy winter clothes when winter returns again.

I needed some Baby Oil and found it in the medicine cabinet. The last time I had needed Baby Oil (made with real babies?) my son was an infant. He's in his 50s now.

The only times I've used a rental locker was moving from one place to another. Back then I had a Squareback with a trailer hitch. I'd dread moving everything with the Metro.

The only time I would even consider renting a storage space is if I was moving and needed to vacate a home before I could get into another one of the same size.

I also find this odd as you have a house in Show Low with a garage and shed. What is going on with the Show Low house? I can see emptying it to rent or sell but if it is just sitting empty that is as good as place as any to store stuff.

My general rule is when one runs of of room to store their stuff then it is time to get rid of some stuff. You have described this stuff as your mom's junk. Take it to the dump and save some money.

Also - congrats on the job.

Seconded. Let us know when you get the first pay check.

When the landlady wanted me to do repairs on her house I was paying rent on, I handed her 30 days notice. She said I'd never make it out in 30 days. It took 28 because that motivated me.

I mostly moved out of a 4 bedroom house from my wife getting a job offer on a Wednesday, and that Friday evening. Had a lot less stuff back then though. Hardest part was getting a washer and dryer up to the 3rd story apartment.

If I had to move now, there would be a cooking accident that sadly destroyed everything.

Shed and, as JSH pointed out, Mom's entire house across the state.
I've told Mom and my wife that it's annoying that I pay rent to store stuff when they have an empty house, but it took a ridiculous number of trips to empty that house.
Now I need to repair and sell it.

By the way, I finally got the new locker, and put several boxes in it (from the house).
I got on the PC to figure out a Uhaul rental now that we're talking again.

How big is the dehumidifier?!

We rent and there isn't space to put up a shed.
When I can make it out to Mom's house, I'm preparing it to sell, I'm not temporarily returning things there.

I haven't been to our locker in a while, but I'm positive that almost everything in there is Mom's.

What are these "Winter clothes?"

I brought it down to figure out my power steering leak.

Thank you very much!

I received the paperwork I need to fill this morning.

Since I graduated, the plan has been to find a job, apply for my license, and fix up Mom's house to sell while waiting for my license.
Of course, that "Finding a job" step took as long as completing my clinical fellowship should have, although I had been misinformed that I didn't need to pass the Praxis until I was applying for my full license.

I spent 28 days studying, hit the Tundra, spent a day trying to figure out everything, failed by a small margin, and after traveling to New Mexico and the Grand Canyon, I studied vastly more, and passed by a narrow margin, which just means I didn't study more than necessary.
Everyone said that having officially passed the Praxis, I would finally find a job, and I did, but it took 5 weeks.
I initially told myself I had one week to find a job I liked and then I needed to find the best job I could, but I wanted a medical placement, and I felt like there must be more medical jobs than I was seeing.
I found Medicare's list of Skilled Nursing Facilities and there didn't seem to be any missing SNF jobs.

My last rotation was with a large company called Ensign and almost all of the SNF postings I had seen were with them, although I started seeing postings with PACS which started purchasing SNFs in Arizona within the last couple of years.

I hyper-focused on this, but planned on creating a webpage other SLPs could use to look for SNF openings.
I think I found 141 SNFs in Arizona and had links to each website and Google Maps for most when my last supervisor suggested signing on with all of the staffing agencies, and getting a school job.

There are more male SLPs in medical settings than schools.
I'm unsure what their reasons were, but my biggest one was that with a 3-month summer, I wouldn't finish my CF until after the summer, but everything took so long, this may not matter--depending on how long it takes to receive my temporary license.

Curiously, I applied to schools in the same town, which advertised similar pay, but for 10 months instead of 12.
It was through a staffing agency, so it would have been more like 9 months.
Bizarrely, they said "Screw you and all of the time and fortunes you've invested into becoming an SLP, we'll only interview you to be an SLPA!"

I really wanted to get creative and descriptive in my response, but I just said "Absolutely not."

I keep planning on moving all of our stuff, but I started looking up my moving expenses (which Mom always says she will repay when she sells the house; I still haven't had her sign something official)

I'll need to attend a week of training, but I'm scheduled for a pre-employment screening on Tuesday.

I'm going to start finding paperwork, you guys take care.
