IGBT driver board
 

Finally I have the parts that do go along the IGBT driver board for the Paul & Sabrina revolt controller board. Based on Powerex electrical design and Paul's PCB art layout.
I will be supplying the bare PCB and the PC board with almost all parts, excluding the VLA500-01 and the 2 gate power resistors.
Gate resistors (R3 and R7) depend on the preferred IGBT to be use, values will be in the range of 1.5 to 12 Ohms, 2 Watts dissipation.
Parts will be supplied populated on the board but unsolder to minimize parts bagging, labeling and placement mistake.
The parts kit:
6 Zenner diodes
2 Ultra fast recovery diodes
5 resistors
2 Optoisolators
5 electrolytic cap.
2 right angle connector headers
1 straight connector header
3 header connector sockets
12 gold crimp/solder pins

All parts distribution will be handled by USPS flat rate mailers in continental USA.
International orders are welcome, inquire whiting.

I checked the circuit layout against the schematic and is OK.
TEST it, not. We haven't purchase the VLA500-01 yet. We need at least a 5 pieces minimum order; I'm good for 2 at least.

In a 5 pieces minimum order, each will be u$s40.00 a piece plus postage.

Where are the VLA's coming from? Best I found was $37.78 from Richardson:

I will be able to place the order for the VLAs and distribute them with the PC boards.

Why don't these IGBT's have 3 terminals on the top?

No yet and I do not think we will ever reach the second discount tier in one single order very soon, but I keep my hopes.
Eventually, we will be a bunch of DIY with a P&S motor controller IGBT based with :) faces............

There is no demand for electric vehicles, so they crushed all of the VLAs. haha

Man, that really sucks!!!! we will have to be in the look out for another source.....

Why is the 500 so hard to get? The 503, 504, and others are in stock everywhere, but NOOOOOO, can't have the 500....

The 500 has built in dc-dc converter as well as the driver. Also, the 500 is a 12A driver for driving large modules or multiple's where the 503 is a 5A driver and the 504 is a 3A driver. These are not capable of driving more then 1 module without having concerns.

Well, that makes sense. Still seems like they're withholding supply to inflate demand so prices stay up. But maybe that's just cuz I want them now. ;)

Any word on getting ready for a group buy on the VLA's? DigiKey lists them coming back in stock on the 17th, so I bet Richardson will be about the same. If we start getting a head count now, we should have money all sorted out by the time they're in stock...right?

*EDIT* Called Richardson on the phone. They said lead time is 30 weeks! Looks like Digi-Key is the best bet. Price is just about the same, as long as we order more than 5 at once (Richardson's minimum order is 5 anyway).

I put in a quantity of 500 and it said that they'd all ship on the 17th. So I think we're good to go even if our group buy hits 25.

Looks like they're getting 1,013 (weird size?) on the 17th. I put in an order for 1700 of them and 1,013 ship on 3/17 and the rest (687) in MAY.

Let's get this group buy rolling! I'm in for 2!

Guys, for a moment I will be out of the race in this group buy.
Last week I placed an order for 12 pieces to fulfill full IGBT KITS paid orders. Digikey is the supplier on these.

Yes, bare PC boards are still available and in parts KIT form to.
Price and KIT description is posted in POST #1 of this thread.
Right now there is NOT a Group buy on the VLA500-01, we where sold out by the nicer price distributor.

Sorry I havent been keeeping up with this thread. So are there any suppliers for the vla module at this time?

It seems that the manufacturer, Powerex, will release there production by mid May.

The VLA500-01 sounds like a good canidate to be reverse engineered ???

I was thinking that same thing today. Maybe if we cut the stupid plastic off of one, and see what all those bulges are. It's got to be really simple. Some sort of transformer, and a few capacitors and resistors and who knows what.

Does NOT look like a FREE market to me, ha....
