improving my van
1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone I own a Hyundai H1 van with a 2.5 turbo diesel motor, it will do 600km on a tank . It has a 65 liter tank and when I refill it it takes 54 literes, I don't let it run to long with the fuel light on. Any suggestions at improving the FE.

If you feel comfortable to do this...................
Remove excess weight like the spare and all the junk in the trunk Inflate the tires to max air pressure marked on tire Remove roof rack if equipped |

I have inflated the tires to 65 psi the max on the tires, and I neutral coast as much as possible.

Diesels aren't often discussed here, but I would think they would respond well to eliminating intake restrictions (adding a cold air intake, etc). The trade-off here will be at least noise. The aerodynamic mods discussed elsewhere and by aerohead will help most on the highway, and Mullet's weight reduction suggestions will help especially in the city. Keep the speed down, keep up on maintenance, maybe a low-viscosity synthetic oil. Not much you can do for a diesel.

Judging from your avatar, your van has an NONFUNCTIONAL hood scoop. That is not the best for fuel economy either. Also try to find out if your car has an Fuel Cut Off. If it does, then you might not be saving fuel by dropping it into neutral. That's how it is for me.

Being that you have a diesel, more of the modern diesel engines will suspending fueling when in gear and off-throttle, which would be more fuel efficient than coasting in neutral.
Offhand, I don't know if Hyundai's diesels do. VW's TDI engines do, that much I do know. Without someone authoratatively saying so, or without tools/gauges to check your fuel use, the only way you'd be able to tell is... try and see, and check after the tank needs refilling. |
