Injector Volume (and Possible Swap?)

Hello EcoModders,
First of all, I'd like to introduce myself to the Forum.
My name is Josh. I currently live in Jupiter, FL (located about 45min from West Palm Beach).

I'm a new owner of a passed-down '05 Civic LX 4d. Great car, no complaints so far.

So enough with the formalities ;)

I was wondering if it were possible to replace the stock injectors with a slightly smaller volume injector from a different Honda.

I spent quite a while searching the internet for the stock injector volume for a D17a1 motor, but couldn't find it.

Currently, I am merely entertaining the idea. I have easy access to wrecked cars, so finding replacement injectors shouldn't be much of a problem.

The only limiting circumstance (that I can think of) is that the ECU would sense a lack of fuel, so it would just force the new injectors to pump the same amount of fuel anyways.

If so, would an ECU swap be the only way to solve this problem?

I also understand the danger that the engine might "lean out" because of a lack of fuel.

I do not, and will not, drive my car like a Go-Kart, so I am not worried about that.

The hardest driving I plan on doing with my vehicle is 200miles up and down from school about 5-10 times a year.

Has anyone done anything similar? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Josh

Im not sure if the injectors are any different, but I run my 3.1 with the injectors from the old 2.8 engine. Seems to me Ive read that the injectors from a Fiero are the same as a typical 2.8 but a little more flow.

Id look on ebay if you havent already. Sometimes they list injector flow rates on there. Other than that, maybe try looking up your injectors on Advance Auto Parts and see what all fits yours, then check out a smaller or lower performance vehicle that you know has the same engine.

Another possibility is to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, then run it a little on the low side. Youre bound to get less fuel through that way.

The ECU will correct the air/fuel ratios.

What are you hoping to accomplish with this swap?

I'm just toying with the idea.

I've checked Pep Boys, Ebay, Advanced, but all attempts to obtain the correct information have been futile :D

I'm hoping to use less fuel in the combustion process.

I'm was just wondering. The ECU and injectors would be quite inexpensive considering the fact they would be coming off of wrecked vehicles.

If it is a feasible mod, and reaps good results, than it should pay for itself rather quickly.

I guess the question is: Is it possible?

And if so: Has anyone done anything similar?

I would assume the only way this really benefits FE is to re-program the ECU (via something like Hondata) to be able to run significantly leaner than stoich.
I think it's possible, but a good bit more involved than just changing injectors.

Hondata wants something like $2000 for a new ECU
BullyDog, SuperChips, and Diablo Sport don't have tuners for my car.

Is anyone aware of a flash tuner on the market for a 2005 Civic LX?
