Interesting cost v. speed analysis
Certainly won't give you the best FE if you follow it, but it's interesting to look at. Perhaps a good way to help push you to move a bit closer to work, na?

What is "Pay Rate" ?

K, driving 95mph to work from now on.
I'd love to see how simplified the FE portion of this 'calculator' is. I bet its linear. |

Salary vs. Hourly
It looks to breakdown hourly vs. flat-rate/salary employees.
For salary or per-mile folks with paid-fuel, speed is King, but you have to look at Environmental goals and the emissions profile. Your company may be looking at cost/mile as well. For hourly folks, relax? It depends on overtime rules and flexibility, but slowing down definitely pays dividends. RH77 |
Now let me get this straight...
Efficiency 20 MPG Speed for Efficiency 25 mph (the speed at which i get 20mpg) Distance one way: 40 Mi Fuel Cost: $2.89 Gal Pay Rate: $0 per hour Cost vertical, speed horizontal At this rate, it costs me about $12 to make the trip at 61MPH change pay rate to $12.5/Hr and suddenly it costs me about $19 to make the trip??? so... getting a raise would cost me money. see what i don't get? |
I think it is made so you can tell your employees how fast to drive. If I pay someone to drive for me then it will be better for the pay expense for him to go fast but better for the fuel expense for him to go slow. It doesn't really help the individual unless you can clock in and earn more money if you get to work faster...
