internal replacement mirrors ?
 

so the most successfull mod i've done so far has been to take off the passenger mirror and i am now eyeing up the drivers mirror. does anyone have experience with internal mirror replacement mirrors? not cameras.

i was thinking about motorcycle style mirrors cut short and threaded so that they can be bolted into a socket from the old mirror.

what is the view like from inside mirrors?

I like mine because they are on a sliding stalk and the stalk is short. This gives me flexibility in moving it into position.

Problems: The "range of vision" if very narrow inside the car. It only shows cars that are right in my blind spot. The vertically mounted rectangular convex mirror actually gives me more stuff to see. I get past this by having a 17" wide convex rear view mirror :

The rear view mirror is my "rear view HQ", and I use my side mirrors for verification.

Fix: I think I will stick a big convex mirror onto the flat internal side mirror :

I do miss my original outside mirror at night. If the traffic is heavy, it's a bit nerve-wracking to change lanes.

why do you have the bicycle mirror out-side? that defeats the object of the exersize doesn't it?

Inside mirrors
 

The civic side mirrors came off easy, and actually left a bolt to mount the bracket to.
These were taken last spring so the windows and car's a bit dirty.

I like them very much,
altho I can't put a number on the savings,
but the views are exactly what I want.
Just the next lane over, the middle mirror shows what is behind.

The outside has been covered with a piece of plastic cut to fit the original opening for the mirror, while the inside has just been black-duct-taped over.

I think removing the driver's side mirror is illegal in every state.

Just like jthistle said, a driver's side view mirror is required by law in California. Even if I could get away with it legally, I would put one there to reduce the cop/hastle factor. Sandy's solution looks very clean. It looks like a convex mirror, which is what I think you need.

It is a convex mirror,
and in NH there are two conflicting statutes.
One says the stock mirror must be used,
and another says that the mirror must see back 200 feet,
but doesn't say it has to be stock.
I know I could get stopped for this,
but I've had cops behind me, and have seen the car and no warnings yet.
I am looking to cut down the stock drivers side mirror enclosure to hold just the convex mirror. Very narrow and aero. But outside and legal looking.

for imports (potential rice rockets) you should consider aftermarket mirrors.

look for "spoon" replicas, usually around 50 for a set of 2, they have a very small area of mirror and are significantly smaller than stock mirrors.

ricers are concerned with reducing drag too, so you should spend some time on their websites... ill see if i can find some quality examples
