I've been a member since last year but....

Hey everyone,
I'm not a new member but I've been a pretty inactive one since I joined last October.

I've been spending a lot of my time over at cleanmpg.com in the last year, I'm pretty vocal over there but I have found that most of my participation lately is in none FE topics and I would rather talk cars.

I'm an experienced hypermiler, I deliver pizzas 6 days a week and am currently getting 44-46mpg in a 92 Geo Metro LSi convertible (top down unless it rains) on deliveries and up to 62mpg on highway trips.

I used to be a machinist both manual and cnc, I do all the mechanical work on my own cars, I want to aeromod my Metro and I love the idea of building an EV that will get 160 miles per charge (not necessarily my Metro, I have a RWD 90 Astrovan that could hold the necessary batteries).

I know little more than nothing about electronics and electrical. But I'm not afraid to learn something new.

So I figured I would hang out here for a while and get schooled on the mod side of FE.

The real reason I'm here is because you have this cool smiley and they don't:

Welcome (back) to ecomodder

Ever thought of swapping an XFi cam in?

Welcome to EM! With all that driving, you're a test lab for ecomods.

I lobbied for this, but they said no :

Welcome to ecomodder! Well, at least thanks for the intro :)

Thanks everyone for the return welcome.

Concerning the XFi cam: I've thought about it but it is a few items down on the list of wants.

I have turned .060" off the cam lobes and milled .060" off the head to increase compression which helps improve bottom end torque noticeably compared to my friends stock 93 convertible. You have to press a sleeve (plus 2 set screws) around the stock timing belt tensioner to take out the excess slack of the belt because of the lower cylinder head/camshaft.

I would like to do:

Rear fender skirts, cover the front fascia and do a total belly pan. (I made front grill covers which where stolen with an extra 5 speed transmission from my carport/shop back in mid May:mad:) (bought an additional 3cyl engine and 5sp trans from Pull-A-Part for $215, pulled in 1.5 hours, locked in basement )

Install a MPGuino (not electrically competent/confident)

Front fender skirts.

Make a solar power/removable hardtop in a Kammback design.

Find the two smooth hubcaps I lost last December when I crossed the railroad tracks way too fast last year. If you see them they were only a month old and where still shiny.

Install a hot intake manifold with recirculating hot water (another Metro friend uses one and gets 74mpg, uses no hypermiling techniques other than slow driving)

Lighten the crankshaft and flywheel, find an XFi ECU and camshaft

Install a transmission from a 4 door metro with the better final drive ratio.

Anyway it's a list. - Dale

Oh I fear the mullet too! :D - Dale

DCB sells completed MPGuinos now so if you can solder 4 wires you're good to go on that count
