Japanese Kei Cars
I saw this place on the tv a few weeks ago, this is a car dealer in Vancouver. Some really interesting cars, and the best part is they all have great fuel mileage.

I wish that suzuki sold the wagonR over here, sweet car, best selling in japan, I think.

Unfortunately... (the bearer of bad news pokes his head into the conversation)...
Transport Canada is looking at revising the import rules (and effectively putting businesses like Japanoid OUT of business) by changing the threshold age at which a car can be imported from the current 15 to 25 yrs: http://www.japanoid.com/stop25/ |
So the moral of the story is if you are planning to buy one of these cars better act soon. I really wish that the car companies would actually sell cars like this in Canada. And a lot of them are really cool looking.
|
I guess that's the moral. The closest you can currently buy new is the smart car.
I had a Canadian in Japan contact me by e-mail - he was looking for someone to partner with to import & sell Honda Beats (awesomest Kei car ever). Too many other things on the go, though, so I had to say no, sorry. |
The Beat is a great car, there was an article in the Toronto Star a while back about importing cars from Japan and they had a Beat in one of the photos. I also like the Mazda AZ-1.
I think we need more cars like these in Canada. |

I'm diggin' this:
Attachment 54 Go-go Gadget-Van! A 0.66L engine in a van with the aerodynamics of a cigarette carton? It doesn't sound like fun on the highway. |
No, that van doesn't look like a good vehicle for the highway. I believe most of these small kei cars were designed for city driving.
|
I would definately drive a beat,

Kei - Cars/Trucks/Vans
The use of these Kei or light vehicles in Japan are seen everywhere you look.
Since Japan imports, I would say 100% of it`s gas, the government made a challenge to the japanese auto makers years ago to design a Kei car within certain specs and each manufacturer came out with their own version. The big thing is, is that their engines are all 660cc gas engines getting about 600+ km/40L tankful. Great for city driving and you can see them on the highways too. I know there is a market for these in Canada. Even though they must be 15 years old +. They come in a variety of styles, something for everyone. Regards, Clent JDM JAPAN |
Get me a honda beat and I'll love you forever! Osaka's a nice city as well, ;)
|
Oh yeah, somebody Beat me! ...Er... I mean supply me with a Honda Beat... I'm allergic to getting hit... I break out in bruises... You know, maybe I could just go for a Suzuki Cappuccino. Can you get one of these in the States? Not that I have the money...
|
Suzuki Cappuccino fo sho, its like a baby s2k
:) How about motorcycles? There a jdm ninja 250 I want that redlines @ 20,000:eek: |
Kei specs:
Max Length 3.4m Max Width 1.48m Max hieght 2m Max engine size 660cc Max HP 63 Vehicles not meeting these specs pay more for registration, insurance, and they must provide proof they own or rent a parking space. The first Honda cars I ever saw might have been Kei cars. The Honda 600 had a 600cc 2 cyl air-cooled motorcycle engine in it. http://www.honda600coupe.com/photos/drivers_side.jpg |
Holy crap! I've seen one of those! Years ago, it was in somebody's driveway during my college-home commute. It was either blue or teal and I always wondered what it was when I drove by it. Now I know. Awesome!
|
I also saw something the other night that looked like a four door version of the Toyota IQ. The license plate said Unyque, so I know it has to be something out of the ordinary.
|
I knew there were cars the Japanese didn't import here, but had no idea about the Kei cars. Talk about cool. I'd want two Beats, one of them I'd leave stock and be the daily driver. Have to see if I could shoehorn a B18C in the other one.

Beat for sale
If somebody decides to purchase this, let me know. I would, if I had the money. Honda BEAT Base (No.371_200807_0010)
