Journey of a mighty Civic VX
After owning a Civic VX for 10 years, it was time to return it back to stock.
When it was still stock a long time ago. I was able to get 43city/55highway. I'm looking forward to getting those number back and much more. This car was bought some time ago and modified to the point were it got very uncomfortable to drive on the street. Every little bushing were replace with polyurethane, high rate spring install, large sway bar, fancy xyz bars, engine swap with supercharger and the list goes on and on. It was intend to be driven and win regional AutoX events. And so it did very well. But the time have come where I'm finally done with making this car go fast and now were MPG matters the most. Last few pictures of what the VX looked like before returning to stock. The memories I had will never be forgotten. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psd1fcb581.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psb1fb511b.jpg Luckily, I kept every single stock piece. Returning it back to stock was an easy task. Ofcourse, I had to AutoX a completely stock VX. Handle a lot better then expected. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps46e98696.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psb8971c56.jpg |
The currently plan is to convert to Federal version, which I already have the ecu and o2. And aero dynamic mod but not to point where body modification is permanent.
I've already begun designing and testing the rear 1/4 panel wheel cover. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps7b312f83.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps9d8156e9.jpg |
welcome back to the other side!

That VX engine compartment looks great. |
Man, that is a tiny radiator, never realized.

Nice car, both forms of it. I regret removing my rear mud flaps for exactly the reason you show here: they make a good mounting point for the wheel well skirts and for rear tire strakes.

Cool! You almost never see someone returning their race car back into a fuel saving daily.

Time for an update.
Just finish my 4th full gas tank since I started driving it stock. 1. 280.0 miles / 7.75 gals = 36.16mpg Note: Missing front L/R inner fender plastic, tires 34 psi, ignition 9degree, 2. 359.0 miles / 8.05 gals = 44.55mpg Note: Both inner fender plastic install, ignition correct to 17degrees, tires psi increase to 44. 3. 389.1 miles / 9.59 gals = 40.55mpg Note: No change. CEL turn on for o2 sensor. 4. 505.5 miles / 9.36 gals = 53.96mpg Note: Federal version conversion. |
I'm very interesting in this current(5th) gas tank. I just finished making and installing the front grill block off. This design are insert style to keep the front looking like a Civic. All 4 mud guard has been remove also.
I'm going to design another full front block off grill with a front splitter all build in one. There should be a some difference in MPG. Right after installing the factory VX grill block off. I thought to myself why not block the side vent too. And while I'm at it, why not make a better center grill block off. Material I used are my left over alumilite when I made a front splitter for the autox version. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps55ad09b4.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6121710c.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps0fa8b780.jpg And since I had the bumper remove, I though it would be a perfect time to fix the gap between the headlight and bumper by using some window/door weather strips. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps32544074.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psb515abdb.jpg |
