Just got a 1995 Civic VX

Have not yet figured out the car. 37 mpg is my best (all city driving). I am hoping to get in the 40 mpg range. It is in really good shape, 193k miles, lots of aftermarket goodies, tokico blues, sway bars, BBS 14" wheels (and stock VX wheels), LCAs, Frame braces, etc. I am hoping to make it into the ultimate mpg car. The motor is stock, only a K&N filter right now. Just put a new OEM exhaust system on it. It has all new electrics (Dizzy, wires plugs, etc). It runs great, just trying to figure out what is holding me back from 40 mpg+?? I may try a new o2 sensor.

I will post a few pics soon.

can't tell for sure from the photo, but those tires look like they might be soft and sticky tires designed for the track, if that is the case there are a few mpg right there.
Is the rest of the exhaust and drive train stock?

Wow - looks like a nice, rust-free VX. Congrats.

In city driving, you're not going to get into lean burn (the VX's secret MPG weapon) nearly as often as when you're cruising on the open road.

For city driving, you'll want to minimize weight & rolling resistance (as Ryland says: tire choice & tire pressure). LRR tires would help.

Above all, driving technique is where you'll find the biggest gains in city driving: 100+ Hypermiling Tips

EDIT: instant MPG feedback is invaluable. You'd have to rig up something like the MPGuino since the VX is not OBD-II.

Nice car! Congrats!

I did put the stock VX wheels back on, those are sticky tires for autocross setup in the pic above. Still only 37 mpg with the stock VX wheels and Falken tires.
