Just a reminder that regardless how aerodynamic you make your vehicle, just remember that it still CANNOT FLY!

State worker survives 20-foot plunge at Menands garage

The spectacular crash happened around 8:30 a.m. at the Riverview Center when the tan Toyota Camry drove through parking space 191, smashing past a vertical steel girder that supports a metal guardrail and to horizontal metal pipes also serving as a barrier.

The woman, 61, whose identity has not been released, crawled free from the wreckage and was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with neck and back injuries that authorities described as serious but not life threatening.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, the aftermath was abundantly clear: the sedan came to rest on its roof about 13 feet from the structure amid a sea of shattered glass in a wide alley on the south side of the garage.

The steel girder and what remained of the pipe barrier hung precariously while owners of cars parked on the deck below inspected minor damage to their cars from falling concrete and police investigators measured the dimensions of the fall.

No tire marks were evident on the space from which the car fell.

Police said they believe someone entering the garage heard the woman's screams and called 911.

Concerned co-workers from the state Office of the Medicaid Inspector General and throngs of other gawkers who work in the former Montgomery Ward building milled about on various levels of the garage, surveying the damage and snapping photos with their cellular phones.

Mike Arnold, a tow driver from Dawson's Body Shop, said he's had to flip plenty of overturned cars but never one quite like this.

"Definitely the first from a parking garage," he said.

She's really lucky it landed on the nose... probably wearing her seatbelt, and the car is designed for this type of collision. Just not usually vertically.

This 18 y/o kid launched 200 feet in his father's M5.

similarly bad idea.

I actually read the thread that the kid posted in, in the M5 forum a couple of months ago when the incident happened. Plenty of members gave him a warning about the speeds that "his fathers" M5 could go. He posted about the top speed limiter and was going to find out with a couple of his friends. Another member on the forum that was local to the kid's area found the news article with a mangled up M5 in the pictures and they put 2 and 2 together to find that the kid hadn't responded. Turned out the kid was the one in the news article. Let me see if I can find pictures.

Solid proof that money doesn't buy brains.

Any 18 year old asking questions about a funny noise when he's pushing 140 is probably headed for trouble. Darwin wins again, unfortunately.

Funny thing you say that. The person that posted a thread about this incident on the Altima forum that I am a member titled it "Darwin takes 5 in one shot."

Totally tactless, and totally true. I find that only the people least fitting to drive cars over 500hp own those cars. Typically slow-reaction old men in AMG mercs or slick hotshot business dweebs in corvettes that don't know an intake from an exhaust. I wouldn't mind at all if the north american gov'ts simply stopped allowing cars over 250hp to be licenced. Wouldn't hurt if they actually made sure people know how to drive before handing out driver's lics too.

What the news didn't report...

In the parking garage case. What actually was happening was creative ecommoding. You see she couldn't figure out how to get under the car to install the belly pan (you can see from the picture it needs one) and she was wanting to lower the overall height on the car to lower wind resistance. She did that, but emergency crews didn't give her time to do the belly pan. Due to the lack of insight she had left all her tools and coroplast in the trunk forgetting the accessibility issues with the car on it's top. Way to go grandma! :)

She didn't get to rotate the tires either!
