I always went for a Fusion hybrid when renting for work. Great MPG, powerful and comfy enough. Smooth ride. Too good of a car for us Americans, so Ford had to cancel it. Bought a used C-max for a friend and she likes it. Another cancelled car.

Don't have any experience with modern hybrids except for the Pacifica, which is very long in the tooth at this point (almost a decade). It's good, but just recently cancelled.

The newest Civic Hybrid is creeping up on the 300hp turbocharged Type R, in terms of acceleration. They're especially quick off the line.

The MSRP is $30k. I'm seeing 2025 model years with just a few thousand miles starting at 20k, and 2026 starting at 23.

Still not exactly cheap, but considering all used cars were once new cars, I'm looking forward to these depreciating into the price range I'd consider buying them.

Just for comparison, it's quicker in a straight line than the 2L turbocharged Supra, and in line with most of the quicker V6 powered cars.

Not that economy cars need to be that quick. I drive a car with a 1 liter engine and I typically never even make it to 60mph. But, it's no longer the case that economical cars come with compromises. Even the humble Prius is now in hothatch territory. These are cars you can nurse north of 70mpg at lower cruising speeds.

FWIW I had a 2020 Corolla Hybrid for a few months last year and it would get over 70 mpg at a steady 60 mph on a flat highway. Thing pretty much drove itself with automatic steering, braking and following. And it had over 250,000 miles and ran like new.
