K-Mart has wheel covers for $16 / set of 4
Hi,
I was in K-Mart last evening and since I need a wheel cover, I checked what they have on sale -- and they are selling all of their 14", 15" and 16" wheel covers for $16 for a set of 4. Get 'em while they're hot! I got the smoothest style of 15" and I used some foil tape I have to cover all but one opening: http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/8664/dsc6820.jpg http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/5238/dsc6821z.jpg I put the wire hoop in the tightest setting, and we'll see how it goes... |
How much tape did you use? I had a problem when doing this with just 1 layer of foil tape. It's held up MUCH better with 2~3 layers.

I only used one layer -- I could another more I suppose. I was going to wait and see how they did -- I had used foil on my alloy wheels and only had one hole, if I remember right. I'm hoping that this wheel cover manages to stay on -- the right front wheel takes a beating here on these narrow frost damaged New England roads...

Mine looked worse than CFG83's after just a week of driving.
BUT. They have held up awesome once I gave it 2 layers (also plastidip, not sure how much it helped however). Including lots of miles, rain, snow, and gumbo mud. |
Why did you replace the wheel disks that you had before with these ? ( The disks in your avatar )

Yes, the metal tabs get fatigued and they get jarred loose. The right front in particular gets knocked off fairly often. It fell off on my way home from the X-Prize in June, and I retrieved it. I bent the tabs to be tighter, and it fell off again in less than 15 minutes -- and I was in tight traffic and could stop without causing an accident. So, it's in the ditch on Rt 80 East somewhere in Ohio...
