L.e.d. problems?
I just picked up a pair of led 1157 bulbs at napa to replace my taillights and as soon as I put one in it lit up but started smoking and my flasher no longer works even with the original light. Any idea what might be wrong?

Look for a blown fuse.

Did the old light work before?
|
The old light did work and I don't get why the new one would smoke I'll check the fuses after work
|
make sure it didn't fry the connector, cheaply built units are a crapshoot at best.

I blew a fuse when I put a LED in my under door entry lights.
The lamp house has two metal thongs that keep the bulb in place, preventing it from shaking loose when the door shuts. These thongs are connected with the lamp contacts for easy construction, which is fine for a non-conductive glass bulb. The LED i put in had on-print SMD LEDs and lots of exposed soldered connections and such. They did not seem to touch at first, but inevitably the thongs found a short route. I now have LED grids in them with a separate plastic connector and wires, no more shorts. And I test all my LEDs with a 9V battery just to make sure they work and don't short internally. |
I'm going to order a led compatible flasher relay and see if that solves my problems. I might just hack up the stock taillights and put a led semi style inside I think it will be brighter and safer
