LAPD and Ford unveil world's first pursuit-rated hybrid
 

The first purpose-built 'pursuit' hybrid for the LAPD police duty cycle, the (Ford Fusion-based) Police-Responder's hybrid powertrain has significant potential fuel savings compared to traditional police cruisers. Its lithium-ion hybrid battery can also provide added benefits when considering the unique idling demands of day-to-day police use. Equipped with an 2.0L I-4 Atkinson-cycle engine, 88-kW electric A/C motor and 1.4-kW lithium-ion battery - projected EPA-estimated rating of 38 combined mpg and estimated 60 in 5.8 seconds. Heavy-duty suspension components, brakes & wheel/tire packages, cloth front seats w/ slim bolsters, designed to assist officers wearing a duty belt. Tough anti-stab plates in the front seat backs. And easy-to-hose-down heavy-duty vinyl rear seats and floor. Ford Interceptors are the only vehicles on the market designed for the 75 mph rear-impact crash test. Part of Ford's electrification program, a hybrid Mustang, a hybrid F-150 pickup truck and a 300-mile-range battery electric vehicle are planned.
