leanburn, on other engines?

Is there anything special about the honda leanburn engines internally? I mean, why do they not suffer from lean run condition that ruins other engines?

Lean burn can be done on other motors, just not quite a lean as Hondas. I run mine around 16.5:1 without any problems so far, although I only do this while cruising.

combustion chamber shape and size play a big roll in being able to have lean burn.

Looks like sulfur content may play a part in why we don't have more lean burn engines in the US.

Home made lean cruise

I'm into the second tank of testing a very basic lean cruise setup on BoB.
I use a digital vacuum sensor on the distributor vacuum advance line to switch a solenoid valve that allows some air to bypass the carburettor at cruise. I also run a basic water induction setup to keep temperatures down.
I don't have EGT or AFR gauges so I'm taking small steps until I get some useful figures to work with.:)
