LED X-mas lights

I put up some LED string lights on my house tonight.

I tested the old incandecents and then the LEDs with my Killawatt.

I still have to put up more LEDs, they only reached about half-way across the side of the house I light.

Ready for the Killawatt readings?

Traditional lights = 424 watts
LED lights = 5 watts (Make that 10 when I put that many more up!)

There you have it. LEDs are WAY more efficient for your holiday lighting needs!

I'm actually planning on buying some cheap white LED Christmas lights after Christmas and modifying them into energy saving lamps. Probably could even dim them with an adjustable current regulator for even more efficiency.

Wow. Thats great news! I bought some LED light strings to use as ambient lighting inside, but I had no idea they were that efficient. Now I just need to hang them somewhere.

A regular LED is about 0.1w each.

I've got some lighting an aquarium . . .

Only problem is now I need a heater; which I didn't need before . . . .

I've been using LED Christmas lights for three years now. They claim to be 80% more efficient than incandescent bulbs. They also now have "soft-white" lights that closely resemble the color of white incandescent lights. The fist year I used them it said you could string three sets of them together, now they say you can string 46 sets together. I think the first-year set is improperly marked.

Where do you get them?

You don't even need to think about the energy savings. We cnverted all our holiday lights to LED just cause they are sooooooo intensely bright and colorful and awesome!!!

I got these from my wife's work. They were sort of a promotional item gone wrong, so they were being sold to employees cheap.

You can get similar lights almost anywhere now, discount stores and hardware stores will all have them.

Sams Club and Costco have them

I love LED's, just had to say it. I replaced 2x40 watt lights in my house(night-lites cuz I am afraid of boogy man) with 6x.03 watt led night lights. 2 lights before =80 watts

6 led lights= .18 watts and guaranteed 14 years can't beat that.

Hey Ben, didn't you have a thread on DIY led lights? I tried to find it but couldn't seem to remember where I saw it at.
