Let's try this again

Hello again all.
I joined this site about 3 years ago. I was enjoying moderate success with my old car. I then got a new car, and I got discouraged when I wasn't getting better numbers. So, I stopped trying and kinda forgot about it.

Well, with the price of gas going back up, I'm encouraged again.

I started tracking my mileage about a month ago, and got much better results this time. Maybe the new engine just had to loosen up a little.
I got my first 30 mpg tank a couple of weeks ago, and again last weekend.
woohoo!

I've ordered an ultragauge. Should be here tomorrow.
Anyway, that's all I got. I look forward to gleaning as much knowledge as I can from ya'll.

Welcome back!

What is your tire pressure? Have you considered some simple aerodynamic mods? Once your car coasts better, then you have to adjust your driving habits to take as much advantage of this as you can.

+1

I didn't see the mpg I thought I should see until I added 4 psi to the front tires.
Then all the sudden my mileage jumped a good bit. That measly 4psi took the tire from sidewall max of 44 to 48. Pretty darn amazing that small change made but I guess the tire needed it to roll better. Immediate difference in coasting!

Needless to say but soon after all my tires were at 50psi.

Welcome back - I ,like you, am back from my Hiatus. ( although it never really leave you)
like said above - with a new car restart the basics. All cars respond differently.

Thanks, all.
I've increased my tire pressure a little bit, up to 38. I'll definitely have to experiment with higher pressures when I get my UG. I think it will be more fun to have more evidence of each change.

1st rule : have fun. If you don't have fun at hypermiling you can't get results ;)

2nd rule : anticipate. The more you anticipate, the more you make your driving safer and the more you save.

I got more fun when I have to relearn my car, per example when I pumped up my tires or when I put rear wheel skirts on. Also got fun when I find a way to coast more or accelerate less on my daily commute.

Have fun,

Denis.
