Sooooo yeah, been poking in here for over a year reading and modding, finally getting into the forums to make a fuel log and discuss what I've currently been doing to my Volvo 244.

Have a (retired) 1990 Chev 1500 I modded into a record of 25 USmpg. And yes it looked like something Doc Brown would have built. :cool: Looking for ideas on that is what first got me on here.

Glad to have someone experienced in something other than 1300lb ecoboxes trying to make them more eco and less box and working on bigger vehicles. Do you have a writeup of what you did to your 1500? I'd be eager to see how you went about it and how you managed to record 25 mpg!

25 is good... I never saw that from injection.. is it injected?

if so you got a smarter than average...or all highway. :)

the ecoboxxes aren't for everybody, but to spend a day elbow to elbow someplace and ponder jacked up jeep trying to own some space, it is humbling.

one is lucky to have the bigger vehicle and space to run it..:turtle:

I avereged 23 mpg with it on a 4000 mile roadtrip, some ecodriving, and some NY state 80mph... but with a trip where I went 55-60mph (90kph) the whole time thereabouts, managed to pull 25. Things I had done to it:

was a 4.3L V6, 700R4 auto 4 speed.

aero cap (2x4/coroplast)
LED tail lights
LED dome light (used alot for work)
headlight/grill block covers
215/75R15 LRRish tires (kingstars found at wallyworld)
Radiator fan removal (100%, no electric)
Front under tray of coroplast from 1/2" in front of airdam to front frame cross-member
Super extra occasional use coroplast front airdam wraparound

That was about it.

I meant no offense bgd73 to you or anyone who drives something that is purpose engineered for FE, I am only welcome to someone's success in working with a larger machine that is NOT engineered that same way.

Fuzzy D - what do you mean by the front air dam wraparound? Can you please describe this in more detail or post pictures?

the oem airdam is about 4" tall below the bumper, took a piece of coroplast and wrappit it over the airdam from wheel to wheel, extending from the bumper to about 2-3 inches above the ground. was held on with zipties so could remove and install in about a minute or two as needed.
