Looking for a MPG gauge for old truck
Hello, I have a 92 diesel box van and our company is on a mission to make this van as efficient as possible. To start testing different ways to make this van better we need a gauge that will show our MPG. This van has almost no electronic, there's no ECU/ECM, it's a 1992 E350 7.3L IDI no Turbo. I was wondering if there is a system available for our model, or something we can retrofit. Thanks for your help, we are very new to the forum, but I can see me spending a lot of time here.

I think you can get started right now by keeping a fuel log. Instrumentation is quite nice but I don't have any...

Thanks for you suggestions. Chris |
You need a Floscan diesel flow meter... ;)

It's been talked about a bit, I've never gotten it to the front burner though, mebbe this spring.

What kind transmission it have and what gear ratio in rear axle.
My 87 F250 get 18 mpg on highway that with manual tran only 1.00 plus 3.55 in axle it see 2500 rpm at 65 mph. Biggest is alignment and air tires to max psi. I believe it 60 psi for rear dually. Get very slow kick off from stop or you waste diesel. |
have you considered turbo charging it? I hear na 7.3 gets worse fuel eccon when loaded down compared to a turbo one

The 7.3L IDI is a good engine. I suggest a fuel flow meter, but just reading the eco driving tips here will help you a bit. A Banks turbo kit would be good, I think.

Thanks for your suggestion. We did get a turbo and innercooler with propane injection put on this van.
