Looking for new fuel injectors. Time to replace them.

Hello everyone.

I am looking for new fuel injectors to replace my incredibly worn stock original ones. With 211k miles on them they can't be in very good shape.

I have posted on this before, but economic times being what they have been I am finally able to do this project and am looking to finalize my choices.

The stock injectors in my Ranger are 14# single hole injectors. From a poster some time ago I had looked at 14# injectors from a 2000 Ford Contour. These have 4 holes rather than my single hole ones. Seems like an improvement to me with better spray/atomization.

If anyone has any other options I am all ears. Different number of holes, poundage, fuel pressure, etc.

Also, I have heard about "flow matched" injectors. I assume these have a tighter tolerance so that each one is equal (or at least closer) to the rest. I'm sure they are more expensive and worth the extra money.

What companies would you suggest for buying these? Any to stay away from?

Also, I have heard that I should change the O2 sensors at the same time to help the computer learn the new set-up. Any truth to that?

And lastly, (yeah I know I'm always full of questions today), is there any "re-tuning" of the computer that needs to be done or that could be done (in addition) to help improve my FE.

Thanks everyone.

In my 94 ranger I put police interceptor injectors (I think they're like 24# or something ridiculous) my cel was on prior so I don't know if it tripped a code, it seemed to idle smoother and my mileage went up 2 mpg but that could be because the old ones were shot, but idk. Either way it had nothing but positive effect although now my ltft is at -99% so I believe it may be running a little rich. I have 14# injectors I got for free from a wrecked escort ill be swapping those in in the summer.

These are flow balanced and are upgraded to 4 hole. $99.95 plus $5.00 shipping

The ones I got from the crown Vic are 4 hole... Probably shoulda mentioned that. Instead of buying some I'd suggest going to a u-pull-it junk yard. You could get like 20 for $100.

Hey Backroadbomber...I remember getting some of my injector info from you. I had looked at getting a set from the pick-n-pull but I had thought that a new set might be better. Also the flow matched thing seemed like a better way to go. It seems that in the same thread that we posted on (or possibly another, there have been so many that I have read) I heard that a matched set would allow some ecu tuning options. Something about the program running a little rich to compensate for the +/-10% of the factory injectors. I'll have to research the threads again to find the info. I think the post was by someone named Olympiads?

Thanks for the link iveyjh. That will give me a place to start.

If anyone has any other insight I'd like to hear. especially on the "tuning" issue. What's involved in that? Costs?

Thanks again.
