Loremo

I'm sure you've seen this before, but I was just browsing and happened to stumble acrost this article.

It's about time they simplified and lightened. I love the fact that this WILL be a production car.

By the way.. still looking for a civic, haha its been at least a month and a half.. I have 3 to look at today, so we'll see.

That is one nice looking hatchback!

Takes everything I liked about my Geo Spectrum and adds cool looks!

DifferentPointofView 02-27-2008 11:15 PM

I've been watching that car for a while. They've said they plan to have the option of diesel and electric, as well as gas. There's a lot on youtube about the car, but I first saw it on the Discovery Channel's Future Car series.

Abner 04-12-2008 08:04 AM

I´m spanish and I love this car. I would like to buy the 20Cv diesel LS model. In Europe we will be able to buy this car in 2009-2010 :D

Arminius 04-12-2008 08:06 AM

Europeans seem to get everything first.

In that first video the car appears to have doughnut wheels on it.

basjoos 04-12-2008 10:25 PM

One feature I don't like about the Loremo is that upward opening front door. Just imagine trying to get in the car in the middle of a heavy downpour or thunderstorm. I hope the seat fabric is waterproof and the display screen and steering wheel buttons are washdown rated. Otherwise things might start to get interesting when you tried to power up the car after sitting down in a soggy seat.

trebuchet03 04-12-2008 10:51 PM

If this car is available when I graduate and get a reliable cash flow.... That's so the car I'm buying.

I know. People from the snowbelt tend to mention what will happen when it has 6" of snow on the roof and your scraper/brush is on the inside.

Me too, if the price stays where they have been projecting. It looks like it could use some help from ecomodder.com on the underside, however.

LostCause 04-12-2008 11:39 PM

Definately a cool car, but I think it might have trouble if brought over the United States in the near future. I don't remember the exact specifications, but I think it has a 0-60 time of ~20 seconds and a top speed of ~80mph. If anyone has clarification (or if I get the motivation to research) then feel free to correct.

I've taken a lot of inspiration from that car, but my car purchase of choice would be the VW 1L (which also has a top speed of 80mph...:(). Ofcourse, that would have to be a used VW 1L. Isn't frugality a synonym of efficiency...:D

I just need 65 mph, so that I don't impede traffic during rush hour. Otherwise I'm happy going slower. I'll just use oil slicks and explosives to get away from the cops. ;)

1L would be even cooler :D But that's money :D Even used :D

I imagine, if it's 22K (USD) over there - it'd be somewhere around 30K after import... Just a pretty off the wall guess.

I showed it to my roommate - he likes it too. I told him the 0-60 time, and he wasn't thrown off by it (he drive's a 4 cyl Accent). I mean, my car's 0-60 is something like 18 seconds :p Another 2 seconds won't kill me :D

One thing I haven't noticed.... Do an of the windows roll down? Do I need to open the door to pay a toll (I do have an electronic toll pay thinger though :p)... What about when the car is how (I usually drive with the windows down for a few minutes to take some of the load off the a/c)? Having windows that roll down is a useful thing to have....

LostCause 04-13-2008 05:18 AM

I've had daydreams of building my own one-place, three-wheeled VW 1L knock-off. I may not get 230+mpg, but it would be damn cool. :)
  • 4130 Chromemoly tubular space frame
  • Composite (FRP) body
  • Lexan Canopy (from homebuilt aircraft supply company)
  • 250cc Kawasaki Ninja Engine w/ MicroSquirt EFI
  • Monoshock Rear Suspension
  • Double A-arm front suspension (probably from modified ATV parts)
  • Skinny Tires + Aluminum disc rims (Either 89-91 Ford Mustang Turbocoupe spare rim or other)
It would be a trike, so in CA that would mean relaxed registration, carpool access, no motorcycle license, and better aerodynamics. It would be relatively light (one person, space frame construction). It would be plenty powerful (28+HP compared to 8hp of the 1L). It would lend itself to a cheap Li-ion electric conversion easily in the future (lightweight, aerodynamic).

It would be pretty scary to drive in the truck lane and would probably be a pain to register and insure, even under relaxed regulations. Seeing as I have no fabrication knowledge and would need to learn some vehicle engineering (ackerman steering geometry, etc.) I would have a slim chance of being successful...

A sliding canopy could probably solve that issue. Either Van's RV/P-51 Mustang style or Bede BD-5 style.

Actually, there are two versions, and more in the future.

MODEL -- 0-60 mph ----- Vel MAX ------- Consumption ---------- Cost

LS -------- 20s------ 99 mph (160Km/h) - 157mpg (1.5l/100Km) - 11.000€?
GT -------- 9s------ 137mph (220Km/h) -- 87mpg (2.7l/100Km) -- 18.000€?

Electric --- 15s----- 105mph (170Km/h) -- 393mpg (0.6l/100Km) --- ???

fabrio. 04-13-2008 09:42 AM

I like the GT version.

Height comparison

tjts1 04-13-2008 12:53 PM

I would like to see real life offset frontal and side impact crash tests interior noise levels, AC, road holding, stability control, ABS, etc. The swing up windshield for a door is dumb. Anyone that has to live with rain or snow will hate this car. Otherwise, its an interesting exercise in aerodynamics, packaging and thats about it. It'll probably fail in the market, be bought out several times as the investors go broke one after another and end up as as an odd footnote of history.

The Loremo will never be sold in the U.S. ... correct ?

( I can't afford one anyways .)

Cd 04-13-2008 05:44 PM

Just for laughs, can you show us a size comparison next to a Ford Expedition ?

Bearleener 04-13-2008 05:51 PM

Saw the Loremo in a museum recently. Looks sweet, but it really is very small, flat and narrow. Very narrow rear-view mirrors.

I, for one, will trade a few drops of water for 150mpg :D I mean, my car's interior gets pretty wet from opening/closing my doors as is (when it rains of course). I've noticed several new cars that don't have rain gutters too.

I agree with the impact testing though - but, according to them, their dumb door is why it should fair better in such scenarios (even the headrests can act as a roll bar if necessary).

Height comparison to any 2 seater would be good

Smart Fortwo: 8'10" long - ~5'1" tall - ~6' wide
Loremo: ~12' 6" (384cm) long - ~3' 7" tall - ~4' 5" wide

Is it perfect? Probably not. Am I willing to be a first adopter - yes (if the timing is right :D)

Not initially - according to them.... It is left hand drive though - so that's hopeful :D

Loremo may not be dead yet?

arcosine 10-13-2012 08:45 AM

Loremo looks big and spacious to me.

NeilBlanchard 10-13-2012 08:55 AM

It may be a bit too small for some, but I do think we have to totally reconsider what cars "are" and how they are designed.

cRiPpLe_rOoStEr 10-13-2012 08:44 PM

That's an interesting project at all, altough some of its features such as the door are not so practical.

kach22i 04-24-2013 03:07 PM

I put the Loremo side view to the latest template, although I have to admit I need a high point or zero point added to the template because it is more difficult to locate than ever before.

The proper way - to the best of my ability.
