What to think? On my own car I crippled the LED headlights because they don't have the low-beam cutoff of the Hella H-4 Halogens. (I also don't think they have the reach for reflectors way down the road.)

Now, one wonders: would a flat piece of Fresnel lens serve?

Note the text: 72 hours to manufacture and they sell for $5.00.

optics and electromagnetism were some of my weakest subjects in physics. I'll be useless to you.
The 'bottom' of the parabolic reflector can be a source of light pollution though.
Some of the 'blackout' schemes for headlights in WW-II involved shielding all but the center of the lamp.

I Have thought of fresnel lenses to turn the output into a parallel beam.

You waste the majority of the light produced.

The object was to not be wasted at night by enemy machine gun fire.

I have fresnel lenses (scavenged from old overhead projectors) in the windows of my place. They throw circular rainbows on the floor and furniture. Back to the sixties!

Most likely, but if the blackout shield were reflective on the inside it would create a plenum.

I did the experiment, holding a card over the top and bottom of the reflector, before I added the aluminum tape. I use that stuff for anything that would be duct taped now. It doesn't have the tensile strength but it cleans up a lot better at removal. Kind of like that white tape you used at Darko.
