Hi everyone

Hi,

I have been driving for 12 years now, all sorts of european cars and I have a thing for modding ...

Be it turbo-ing my Mini, fitting high-comp piston to my supermoto and now making my work commuter less fuel thirsty.

Obviously european and especially french cars are pretty economical but you still get to do a little better than what is there to start with.

So, the car :
2001 Renault Megane DCi

Looks like that but mine is dark grey
It's got a 1.9 diesel turbo common rail engine (105 HP and 20,4 mkg at 1 500 rpm) weigh 1,250 kgs and is said to return :

Highway : 4,4 l / 100 km
mixte : 5,2 l / 100 km
urban : 7,2 l / 100 km

I am having a consistant 5,3 on my commute to work at this time of year and have seen an all time low of 4,8 on a long journey from south but that was using A/C sparingly and driving in the 110 / 120 km/h region

Anyway, I plan to do something for the front lower grille (in the bumper) and add rear wheel fender from an R25 to start with. THere is work to do under the car as well especially on the rear.

I would really like smaller rear view mirrors (they have to be out of the car) and work on the weight of the car.

Seems like a great forum and finally people with which I can share !

Bye

Welcome to EM. I look forward to seeing what you can do with that car.

Do you use a lot of our ecodriving tips already?

Welcome to EM!

There are 2 things with your vehicle that are advantageous: it's an Estate with a Diesel (both are rare in the US these days). We only have the VW Jetta (Bora) "Wagon" TDI in that range.

Tell us more about your Cooper! ...sounds like fun.

Best FE,

RH77

Welcome to EM! In California I only require one outside mirror. I used a small bicycle mirror like this :

Hi renault_megane_dci
It's nice to see that your Megane doesn't have roof railings that a lot of European stationwagons have.

Hi renault_megane_dci, welcome on board.

I have the scenic version (an MPV version) of the megane with the same engine and from the same year. My scenic is also 105HP but has 20.8 m.kg the weight is 1290 kg and both frontal area and Cd are more important.
My consumptions are 4.9 highway, 7.7 city and 5.9 combined.

As my wife and I are sharing our cars, I don't drive it often. This summer I was under 5.0 l/100 (over 47 mpg) on my daily commute. At Xmas I achieved a 4.41L/100 (53.32mpg).

I did a full front grill block (except in front of the turbo) which works very well to keep the engine hot and we had no overheating problem yet but I'm wondering if for highway it isn't a little bit too closed...

These results were with tires inflated at 3.5 bars (51 psi), a lower steady speed and driving without brakes. In city I'm using pulse and coast in neutral (with engine on). Currently in the megane classic (our older car), I'm using pulse&coast at higher speed and I'm beating my summer results : 4.4L/100 (53 mpg).

Have fun,

Denis.
