Unique pieces and mass production aren't the same thing.
|
Hence the term 'mass customization'.

Hypothetically. This is Sheet Metal as a Service (SMasS). The overhead is amortized across the orders fulfilled. There won't be many $1 parts from a 4x6 sheet of metal.

Apparently there is enough money floating around somewhere to make a business like this possible.
Laser cut and folded sheet metal chassis with A-arm front suspension and 964 rear, Subaru drive train with a Subarugears reverse-cut ring and pinion, and a front radiator with no grille; all topped with a carbon fiber body with correct cockpit and frunk interiors.
IMHO the comparison with Singer falls short. Singer is refurbishing original body shells. These guys are 3D printing the bucks for their body parts. This is far beyond what Singer or Emory Motorsports are up to.

Hmmm.... 3d micro precision to .001 of all the bumps, wobbles dents and dings of the probably inaccurate master. What could possibly be wrong there?
So if the body sags by 5-10 thou everything will be replicated with the sag. Terrific.

19:11 Um, what can you tell me about your development of this? Yeah. Yeah. Look, we're super proud of this. It's not
19:17 something that you embark on lightly. No. Uh, so what you'll see a bit later is
19:23 the digital design that's behind this. This is not just a mold off a production car or an old car. This is starting from
19:31 scratch and designing every surface from scratch to be like the original car but heavily
19:38 optimized. So all of the shadow lines, all of the curves, all that aclass surfacing they call it is absolutely
19:45 perfected in the computer. We then go to large format 3D printing which you'll see. We 3D print large
19:52 bucks and then we get those perfectly finished by our paint partners.

Unless you have drawings from the manufacturer, everything is just a guess or an interpretation when you make bucks, formers and patterns from used parts.

Once again, the bucks are 3D printed. The process is likely: point cloud from scan > NURBS > polygon mesh.

What do you need to know about forming sheet metal by hydroforming, except for calculating the tonnage required which I am way off when I do

This is a different process. Shaping is done with a moving point rather than all at once.
The Renner 356 body is carbon fiber.
