Just got a personal best after a few mods:


Grill block for the *upper* part of the radiator, so the autobox cooling pipe still has 100% airflow and the air that isn't now going over the engine is encouraged over the top of the car rather than underneath it. (no worries about overheating.. these engines can misfire on piston 1 in very cold weather as they are very long and efficient and get a temperature gradient along them, piston 1 getting too cold to fire)

Mud flaps removed

Tyre pressures increased to 45psi all round (50 max on sidewall)

Stripped out all loose unnessary weight (not much but every little helps)

Result:
Usually I get to 540 to 560 miles from a brimmed tank before the yellow warning light comes on.. this tank it was 600 miles, so it was looking good before the 'formal' result was in... Re-brimmed and it swallowed 61.9litres having done 635miles... 46.6mpg uk (45mpg ex-urb rating).. all without pulse and glide.

I've located the tourque converter lockup signal.. so now I want to install the override, which should be worth a bit more... target is 50mpg UK.
