Mercedes 220D?
I found a long-parked 1974(?) Mercedes 220D. I did a quick wiki search and found that they were offered from 1968-1974. My question is, is this a good kind of rare or an Edsel kind of rare? 240Ds have their place, but is the 220D something that would be worth putting some money into or would a more common Mercedes diesel be a better choice?

My previous mechanic had a customer that converted a 1970's era MBD to veggie oil, but it was a disaster. He warned her not to do it because the cost of the parts was astronomical, but she wouldn't listen. It didn't end well. Made me look : Mercedes 220D http://www.loonu.com/gym/3079.jpg But I don't know, maybe the 220D was the cherry of the bunch. CarloSW2 |
We have an early 70's 220D on the farm. Not sure about parts availiblity, but ours is a tank. Pretty sure my brother runs a good mixture of WVO thru it with no ill effects so far.

They're tanks, but not spectacularly efficient, being rather heavy and underpowered.

The pre-W123 vehicles are very collectible. Don't ruin it with vegetable oil, use biodiesel instead. I've got a 240D, 1983, and it's a great car. Not the most efficient, but comfortable and cruises nicely.

I have a 240D engine and 4 speed trans... But that's it.
